First Decent Helmet

I got an email flyer from Infinity about their sale and decided I would get myself a decent lid.
Can anyone offer any advice on splashing out on something of quality. Is Infinity sale a good place to pick something up?
I am out of the country from next week and the sale ends while I am away so if I can pick something up before I go I’d be chuffed.
Cheers

Arai or Shoei. simples. BUT a helmet must fit you properly or you may as well be wearing the box it came in

Put it on your head. if it’s immediately comfy, keep it on your head and walk around for a bit - the ‘squeeze points’ aren’t always obvious at first. I’ve been very happy with my Arai Quantum (not that I’ve tested it in anger).

The Sharp website shows how well they tested

after several shoe’s i’ll get schubert. New one coming out this spring. reason for that is best noise insulation and internal dark visor. hate to carry clear one in a back pack and change it at night.
arai doesn’t fit my head so can’t comment
good luck

Just crash tested a Shoei XR1100. Went straight out and bought another. The ventilation is great and you get a pin lock with it, it’s also nice and light. But it is loud, owing to ear cavities in the design.

shoei … i found mine pretty quiet compared to other brands, also find shoei fits my head shape better than others.def try them all on and get the tightest fitting you can be comfortable with as no good if it’s loose and wobbling about :hehe:

I love my schuberth c3. In fact I love all schuberth helmets. They are just solid. It’s been back at schuberth twice after a crash and it’s come to me fit for road use. Just cosmetic damage.

I own a shoei quest too, and love it too. But its the shell sizes that put me off wearing it. The helmet is huge, and i usually prefer my helmets to be more realistically sized. Another issue with the quest is that I get a whistle at a certain velocity. However, its very strong, comfortable, and has some great ventilation.

Shoei

Before you spend your cash at Infinity, give HelmetCity a call as they can do good deals

Just helmets offered an LB discount so maybe worth giving them a call as well…

+1 for the XR1100 though…

Helmet City usually have some fantastic deals on certain colour schemes. The most important thing about a helmet is that it fits. There’s no point in buying an Arai if you’ve a Shoei head.

And see http://londonbikers.com/forums/910439/praise-and-shame–infinity-holborn#bm910462 - Infinity do not give refunds if you take something back

HJC Alpha 10 - ben spies one, the lightest in the market

X-Lite all the way…

you cant get refunds on helmets unless there is a manufacture fault with it anywhoo :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh wait, I’ve just thought…

Arai, shoei, or AGV or HJC

personally i’d say AGV OR SHOEI, they make THE best lids, the HJC R-PHA is also a good lid, tis the lightest you can buy apart from carbon lids, weighs in at 1200 grams, AGV, Shoei, and Arai weigh an average of 1400 grams.

it cracks me up when peopel say i want a ‘quite’ lid…none are quite!! apart from a schuberth…bu the sheels are MASSIVE.

if you want quite…wear ear plugs…cos NO helmet will ever be totally quite, nature of what they are and where they are worn…

and as matt pointed out if it dont fit properly it wont do its job regardless of price or make.
