Pretty much what I expected TBH, that’s a road legal race car with added down-force and 4 fat tyres.
A shame the GSXR was on stock settings, what’s the point in fully adjustable suspension if you aren’t allowed to tweek it? Prolly wouldn’t have changed the outcome but would have helped close the gap.
The choice of track is pretty car friendly.
Not exactly a fair contest. Anyone really going to commute in that car? How many ride the bike and use it all the time? The car is radical but completely and utterly impractical for just about any use. The bike on the other hand can be used all the time. I am not dissing the car, I would love a go in it but on your average evryday uk road, the bike would do it when the car would not. We have to put up with uneven surfaces and potholes etc, that car won’t cope with them without causing some serious damage to the underside.
For that track, probably a fair result.
For practicality, road use, etc… I agree its not a fair result, but atleast they admitted it at the end and gave the gsxr a moral victory, unlike clarkson who would have just said something stupid.

Nice video, though I think they’re plonkers for not letting him adjust the suspension, as Chuffster says, it’s fully adjustable from the factory, so you’re only changing what the car drivers would also change in their ****pit, i.e. traction control, sports mode, etc…
Either way, it’s a good show of the gixxer’s naughty behaviour and the Westfield’s lap-time killer ability. But I do wonder what it would be like on a well setup gixxer, on a more unbiased track, say, Silverstone International, or even GP (easy, gixxer wins with it’s top speed of 187mph, vs the cars, what?).
Definately a car biased track for sure!
Another point is price, the car is more than twice the price of the K5.
There’s enough spare cash left to satisfy even Jay’s passion for after-market bits!
Fact is cars corner quicker than bikes, as soon as the track opens up the bike wins on better acceleration / speed though.
Yeah, liked the way he was drifting the bike in the turns… just like mladin in the AMA races. Still, i think 1 sec behind a high-end race car without any adjustments is pretty darn good…especialy for sumthing that costs 9000 pounds ?
The Clarkson comment was spot on, at least Hammond and May are Bikers and are not as scathing as Clarkson.
At least fifth gear show bikes, we never see them on Top Gear and why not ?
Me thinks aunty doesn’t like to show its viewers that Bikes are fun except for the occasional Moto GP races on BBC2.

Does anyone have any times for race bikes v. race cars on the same circuit? Like Jerez / Donnington etc.
I’ll think you find that at the few places where Moto GP and F1 use the same layouts the bikes are slower. It’s down to those pesky corners!
Touring cars and Superbikes would be a good test though. 
Just done some research, British touring cars vs BSB - these are not lap records, I just took the FL I spotted from the 2nd races.
Brands Indie - cars 49.96 Bike 46.09
Snetterton - Cars 1min 12.28 Bike 1min 05.71
Maybe someone can find F1 vs MotoGP (Cataluyna, Sepang may use the same layout) The cars will be faster though.
I’ve got a test in a mag at home around Rockingham, rally car vs Ady Smith on his factory Motard.
Actually that car time around snett suprises me, quicker than I thought. (3 seconds quicker than me on my GSXR!

Interesting stuff. But bikes are best regardless (stamps foot).

Much more involving, nothing beats leaning a bike over and getting yer knee on the deck (or having to pick yer foot up and bend yer knee inside the bars cos you’ve got yer motard on it’s ear!)
There’s more skill and bottle involved too. Put the Doris on the bike and Kev in the car, the biker will be closest to the others original times.
Lets face it, a bit of an unfair test, however don’t forget the gixxer still beat the times of the noble, lambo and bemmer to name a few
That is some feat beating those cars considering the cost of the bike!
I’ll take it for what it is, Entertainment. I could sit all day watching Smiffy hustle that thing round the track. Bloke is an animal tho! He slides the back end in the corners intentionally, when I do it its normally because I’ve ****ed it up.
Oh and hasn’t VBH got a bit puppy fat’ish…never used to be like that?
