Feeling spontaneous this weekend?

Have decided to be spontaneous and go away this weekend - have plans on Friday and Saturday morning, so won’t be leaving town until lunchtime. My initial thought was to do this solo and still very happy to do this, but could be fun to have some company.

No specific plan other than to follow the sun! Will ideally end up in the Pennines/ Peak District, Yorkshire Moors/ Dales, but could be Devon/ Cornwall - the sun will decide. Will use Hotels.com to book a room(s) on the day wherever I/ we end up. Will be using my new TomTom ‘Winding roads’ option to test it out in the UK - was pretty good at getting me off the beaten track in Spain! If you’re at a loose end and your bike is up for a 600- 800 miler then let me know if you fancy tagging along.

Will plan to get back to London by about 8pm on Monday evening. Need to be laid back - go with the flow type as it will not be a highly organised trip - expect the unexpected!

It’s really late notice and a Bank Holiday, so not expecting any/many takers but just in case I get lucky, would probably limit it to about 6 to ensure we don’t have problems finding rooms - Hotels.com is excellent at finding exactly what you need very quickly, but don’t want to push my luck!! Priority will go to people I know and have already ridden with. Pace will be medium/progressive, with lots of stops, leisurely lunches, photo ops etc, so overall, a very relaxed few days.

First choice will be Pennines & Yorkshire. Any recommendations of great roads, biker friendly cafes etc would be gratefully received!!

I’m planning on heading away for four days, however the weather forecast seems to be deteriorating the closer the weekend gets. I’m not going to make a final decision till Friday night/saturday morning.

I have at least one other confirmed Kev, fancy coming along if the weather isn’t too bad?

I would love to but I fear the other half would not be happy if I disappeared off all weekend (she works away all week and was away last weekend). I don’t think she’d be too happy about 600 miles on the back of the ZX6-R either! :frowning:

meh. we decided to get away for the weekend last night. rooms booked. 3 nights in wales

Hope you both have a great time -will let you know if I land in Wales, but doubtful. Really want to do the Snake Pass.

I love doing trips like this. Making it up as you go along etc…

Enjoy!

Yep, I’m really excited  So far I have one definite companion for the whole weekend (who I have ridden around Wales with, so know that we won’t want to throttle each other after a few hours!!) I have 2 others who will confirm by tomorrow and another 4 who are planning to come with us for the first part of the ride, although I reckon if it’s p**sing down in London on Saturday (as forecast) the latter will drop like flies!!

Have fun, spontaneous is good! Looking forward to reading how you get on  I’ve decided to head into Europe on the 2nd September for 5 days, camping all the way. With the eurotunnel booked I have just over a week to get my act together. The best trips are last minute decisions IMO.

So myself and two mates are going to endure the rain today to ride up to Yorkshire in order to ride around the Moors, Dales and Peak District for the rest of the weekend. Fingers crossed we encounter some awesomeness! First time I have ‘planned’ to do a long ride in the rain, hoping it’s not as bad as I’m expecting it to be.

Enjoy Hun, there is a road from Kendal that is rated in the top 10 biking roads in the world (according to some bike web site)… No doubt you’ll find some crackers! Meant to be dry up there later

We were on the other 9 top roads in Wales today  around 10 small droplets on the visor in the morn and then bone dry by 11am and looking good for the next 2 days
350 miles done today :0

We`re at home with dry visors and Rainsford Road on our doorstep.

Good luck in the Dales and Wales peeps.

, Enjoy!

Any updates, ride reports, photos?

Hope you adventurers had a good time and got home safe and sound.

Had a bloody wonderful time, just as Fireblade Rob et al predicted. Weather once up there was amazing. So glad I did it - even if I overdid it yesterday 457 miles - whizzing around the Dales until we left Leyburn at 5.30pm - zipped down the A1(M) and M1 to the A57 (to do Snake Pass), then back to hop on the M1 and home. Didn’t get in until after 1am, but at least I missed all the Bank Holiday traffic!!

Want to go again at the end of Sept, to do what I missed, so I can plan a more formal 3 day group trip for next year.

Sounds good, dont forget weve got accomodation in the southern lakes.

I know - still waiting for my formal invite!!

You are formally invited, let us know when yer free in late September.

If dates prove suitable, I`ll show you round my patch.

Have to be in Manchester for Tory Party Conference (Work!) on the Monday morning, so was going to leave London Friday lunchtime to come up and play in the Dales/ Moors or Dales/ Lakes. What are your plans that weekend - perhaps PM me or they’ll all want to come! :D;)
