There is an article in this months Bike magazine (Feb?) where one of the staff rides Sanders’ R1 to Wales.
I presume as it is in this months Bike that it happend before the MCN show.
Now at the MCN show they had the Nicks R1 on display with all the mud and crud from his round trip.
If the bike that Bike rode to Wales was his then the R1s’ mud crud was plain UK/Walsh mud
if the R1 at MCN is nicks that whose bike did Bike Mag ride?
Lots of promo around Sanders, how much of it is just fairy dust? He did not do what he set out to do on the last run, but he is still trying to sell his story. Take the mud on the bike with a pinch of salt - it may be Welsh, could be Zog.
I’m not sure how him riding a long way makes him a better biker than any of us!
I’m sure he’s had some good experiences but from Reading his blogs he sounds very full of himself.
I reckon spending that much time on a bike with no-one else to talk to would elevate the self importance in any one of us. He is an extraordinary bloke, with a very different way of looking at life to most of us.
I had a good chat with him before his last outing …
We were up there that day - several LB were. Shame he wasn’t able to just get on with his journey in his own time, he might have completed it instead of cuttting short to meet book publishing deadlines.
I was underwhelmed by what seemed to be a very abridged serialised version of his latest trip-book in ‘Bike’. It just read like a ‘I woke up…had breakfast, got on my bike and rode from x to y and there was quite a lot of poverty’ (repeat). I guess/hope the book would read a bit better but it didn’t make me want to rush out and buy it.
I love the fact that he can take an out and out sports bike and ride it those distance across that terrain - some of the roads he was on would be a bugger on a trail type bike - let alone an R1.I also like to see a flash sports bike get really used and dirty like that – rather than stuck in a garage all year and only brought out on summer weekends.
I agree wiv you Sid…riding all those miles on a sportsbike :w00t: ooer sore posterier or what:pinch: Met him years ago bought him a whisky chaser had a laugh wiv him but he ended up very pished lol:Dhe’s got some good storys to tell…
I’d love to meet him Wasp - going by his writing he’s obviously an interesting and intelligent fella - hats off to him. I bet he got bloody sore wrists/neck as well!
I have a lot of resect for Mr Sanders and his motorcycling achievements minus the Hollywood budgets and fleet of back up staff etc, I think it is a shame that he doesn’t quite ‘sell it’ as well as he could do. He is an interesting character but sometimes has the ability to make amazing journeys sound a bit ordinary!
Still, good on him, long may he keep showing that you can ride virtually anything to virtually anywhere if you are in the right frame of mind.
