Buy mine… 2004… 12200 miles… £2800 cash and it’s yours…
but to answer your question… The Fazer (this one) needs to be revved… when you do get it going it’s a great bike… I was never a Bandit fan… Too heavy… plus this is comfier as I’m taller…

Wot he said!!
Got any video of your 6 foot 4 inch frame on a Hornet with your knee sliders rubbing against your ears? :D:D
They are small. I’m 6 foot 1 and, after my Blade, it feels tiny . . . but I love it. There is something just fantastic about the Hornet. I have one of these
on my face whenever I ride one.
If you do opt for the Fazer FZ6 (as opposed to a real Fazer) then check that you don’t have the gear problem I mentioned in a previous post. I bought my in 06 brand spanking new and there was lots of reports about crappy gear changes at the time. Also, remember you need to work it to get the best out of it. Anything under 7k revs is about as un-exciting as free-wheeling. It does really come to life from 7k onwards and will more than accommodate your size.
Good luck fellah.
no apology needed fella. that’s a pretty good description. everyone has different things they like/dislike in a bike. as with anything. it’s what suits your purpose best is the main thing.
either way you’ll get a good bike. all i can say is i love my hornet. everytime i think of selling it, i take it out and fall in love with it again. a k&n, dyno, set of renthals and aftermarket can set it off lovely too. dunno what the suspension’s like on the fazer as that’s where the hornet hits it’s limits. the front’s a bit soft and rear shock very basic. dunno about the new ones though…
on my second hornet now and got no plans to change in the near future
such involved bikes. can trick em out, commute, tour (???), take em on the track, cut through traffic, go out scratching at the weekend the list goes on. the hornet does them all, WELL. all i would say is a bike being light and flickable is not a disadvantage in my book. and if you’ve got a missus, she may appreciate that vibration on a weekend jaunt
just make sure you buy the bike you want at the end of the day though. it doesn’t matter what anyone else says/thinks ultimately
SV650…
Hornet - modern day classic -
Buying new?
Old style fazers are nigh on bulletproof and more powerful than their peers. Yamahas have the longest service interval of the bikes mentioned here (6K miles). The new fazer is more peaky and revvy though the bike press are warming to them these days. Biggest selling bike in Europe for a reason. They recover from crashes and there’s plenty of spares available.
Sure, the hornet is nice but it has a much smaller tank and range. Honda servicing (4K miles) and costs. That ruled it out for me.
SV650 is a different prospect with a different engine and totally different geometry to naked 600’s - try before you buy. I found the clutch so heavy on an SV1000 it was christ-awful in town. I’m sure 650 riders will leap to its defence.
How about a street triple from Triumph?
Mate, you forgot about the Z750…think that might just push all the right buttons…
Yeah, nice one! There’s a top looking z750 round my way.
The street triple BTW, the hinckley boys also do 6K services but I’ve heard rumour of electrical problems. Just rumour mind you.
+1
Oh I do like to be beside the Vee Side;)![]()
Top speed on the one I had was 122 indicated flat out in sixth gear…also brand new.
The good thing about it though was that it was perfectly comfortable at this speed, whereas 122 indicated on the Fazer for any length of time and my helmet’s being ripped off my head by the wind.
Fazer - end of.
+1
:D:D
fazer foxeye model if carlsberg made a 600cc first bike truss me
I chose the FZ6 because I’m 6ft 3’ and 16stone… Couldn’t get comfy on the Bandit… It also felt a bit… well… lardy…
It’s true the new Fazer is revvy & Peaky… you get used to it… Good fun when you want to open it up tho… (handles well too…)
Fazer, definately, but the older model…
Ive had mine 4 yrs, first bike, and its help me gain experience and confidence.
It aint exactly slow, and the engine has good powerband spread right across the range (unlike the new fazer)
I tried out a nearly new Fazer a few weeks ago, and to be honest i give him back the keys and preferred my own!
Not forgotten. I called ARJ motorcyles in Surrey about a Z650 (the one you sent me on autotrader) and basically the guy couldnt get me off the phone quick enough. No interest in giving me a test ride and no interest in talking with me. Dkhead. However wil still try to test one. Do they do a naked one? Ive only seen faired ones.
Having slept off my inital enthusiasm for the Hornet after yesterday (was almost ready to get the credit card out) I think as per my inital feeling, yes its too small for me. So far Fazer is in front for me. And theyre going on 0% finance right now (well so’s the Hornet), and theyre about a 1000 quid cheaper than the Hornet. Dont get me wrong though. Loved the Hornet and in some ways liked it better than the Fazer.
White has to be the best colour whichever bike. Black for cars, white for bikes.
Thanks, Nice bike. But Im looking for the naked one.I agree about the size. Good bike for lanky people like me.
You want a ducati 848 then
Shame about the Z750 mate, weird the guy didn’t want to know…hehe your budget has gone up
Although they are doing the Z750 on 0% now as well…
