Police seek “blood covered” man after fatal road crash 08.07.08

Collision investigators are trying to trace man who was covered in blood and seen walking away from a fail-to-stop collision in which a motorcyclist died.

Police and ambulance were called to reports of a collision between a motorcyclist and a car on Barnet Lane, Barnet at about 10.45pm last night (07.07.08.) and found the male motorcyclist, believed to be 36 years of age, suffering from serious injuries.

He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards at the scene.

A post-mortem will be scheduled in due course. Next-of-kin have yet to be informed and formal identification is yet to take place.

The driver of the car failed to stop at scene and Sergeant Mick Cheeseman from the Collision Investigation Unit has issued appeals for help from the the public.

"We are keen to trace a man seen leaving the scene. He walked off towards the Dollis Hill Estate and would have been covered in blood, he said.

“If you saw him or have any information regarding the collision please don’t hesitate to contact us.”

One man has been arrested as part of the investigation and remains in custody at a north London police station.

RIP biker-

anybody see anything?

I pray they find the driver of the car! to walk away is obviously to assume guilt. Motherfuuuuuker!!!

RIP fellow biker!

That is horrific! I can’t believe someone would do that and just walk off. Bloody hell. I hate our society sometimes.

It is a sad reflection of the rather selfish attitude that has crept into society. Hope they find the bastard and throw the book at him, preferably the complete Encyclopaedia Britannica from a great height.

Hard to fathom why he’d walk away. He was either in shock and will hopefully turn up at a police station today or he’s a bastatd who should be found and prosecuted. rip biker

Not a good thing to read and rather close to home.

I hope forensics or whatever nail this fugger:angry:

A few years ago a woman in texas hit a pedestrian with her car so hard that his head got lodged in her windscreen. He was still alive after the collision but instead of stopping she drove home and left the car in the garage. Only reason she got caught was the persons smell after they died alerted neighbors that something was wrong. There are some really sick people out there.

RIP biker

There is absolutely no excuse for this. I expect there is no reason as sympathetic as “the driver was in a state of shock”, more likely the driver was under the influence!

It makes me sick and cynically I don’t believe anybody will be brought to justice for this, all I hope is that the person responsible will be racked with guilt and trauma for the rest of their life driving them to a tormented madness.

R.I.P and thoughts to those he’s left behind.

It’s quite common in people who’ve been drinking apparently. There was the high profile case of the TV producer who did it last year, claimed he was shocked/panicked and by the time they caught up with him he was back below the limit… They still nailed him though IIRC.

please… nothing will happen to him… a cyclist who could afford a £5000 custom made bicycle kills a child and is told to pay less than half the value of a new custom made bicycle… so essentially that little girl was worth HALF a bike only…

The problem isn’t people the problem is the legal system… the judges claimed that becasue there was no law saying that you could be charged for killing someone with a bicycle, then they couldn’t charge him with anything… what so he hasn’t actually killed anyone…

I bet there’s no law saying you can charge someone with murdering someone with a ream of A4 paper…does that mean if I beat someone to death with a block of printer paper, I can get away with paying for half the value of the ream… ITS UTTER INSANITY!

Our society today is more than a disappointing one.

Its so depressing to know that i’m not protected by the law, as i believe i should be.

There is just no excuse for walking off, and i know that for a fact. Earlier on this year, i had a drunken lady walk into the side of my car, while in motion. Very scary indeed. The first thing i did when this happen was i stopped my car striaght away and ran over to the woman i just hurt and rang for help striaght away. Of course i was in a state of shock, but there were more important things to deal with. Strangly, all she wanted to do, when she made sence, was to go home and have a drink!

I was found not to be at fault, after sitting the by the road side for more than 6 hours crying my eyes out that i hurt someone. The police told me that because i was doing the speed limit or under, that this was the reason she wasn’t seriously hurt. If it hadn’t been me on that saturday nite, it might have been some boy racer that would have probably killed her.

RIP that rider…

hope they find the driver of the car, there is no excuse for leaving the scene, shock or no shock.

If this guy does not turn himself in then I wouldn’t blame the relatives of the guy who died if they tracked the fugger down and (use your imagination. . .)

R.I.P.

+1

My friend got hit on the Hendon way by a car that turned right across his path he went into the side of the car at 40mph and the car sped off but the worst part is left him lying unconcious lying in the middle of a dual carriage way at night. He was very lucky that another car saw the accident and blocked the carriage way off. They never found the driver but luckily my friend made a full recovery. Some seriously sick people out there

Regarding the cyclist, I don’t understand why he wasn’t charged with manslaughter as he told Police he could have swerved or slowed down but chose not to.

In other words he was willfully reckless in ignoring the dangers inherent in a chosen course of action. Death through reckless behaviour is one of the definitions of manslaughter. In the past people have been found guilty of manslaughter for throwing objects of a bridge because they did so without regard for what that object would do if it hit someone unseen below. In this case the cyclist saw the victim but chose to cycle at her. He said that he thought a shouted warning would be enough. What if she was deaf?

Recklessness or willful blindness is defined as a wanton disregard for the known dangers of a particular situation. An example of this would be a defendant throwing a brick off a bridge into vehicular traffic below. There exists no intent to kill; consequently, a resulting death may not be considered murder. However, the conduct is probably reckless, sometimes used interchangeably with criminally negligent, which may subject the principal to prosecution for involuntary manslaughter: the individual was aware of the risk of injury to others and willfully disregarded it.

Poor Fellla

Every week someone else dies its getting really depressing making me think why do i do this
