FAO BabyJ - Autocom half price sale???

Copied from another site:

"As of tomorrow (26th October - when the advert goes out in MCN), Autocom are doing a national promotion selling ALL their current Autocom units at half-price.

Dealers are NOT able to order any more units than they have in stock right now, so if you want an Autocom unit at half-price, get your skates on! Whitehouse have the following units available (approx) as I write:

Base-spec unit: 12 (£100 down to £50 for solo rider / £145 down to £72.50 for rider + pillion)
Mid price (Active 7) unit: 15 (now £75 rider / £102 r+p)
Top spec unit: 10 (now £105 rider / £140 r+p)"

On the Autocom site, Infinity is one of their suppliers, so BabyJ, have you heard of this?

I so want a rider + pillion one, and will prob have to go for the top spec one, as both of us will have open face helmets. I think only the top spec one would have a mic good enough to cope with them. Would even that work, anyone? If so, and there is a deal, please put one aside for me BabyJ!

Very good tip Paivi! I had an autocom before and it’s brilliant to travel and chat with your partner or leasten to music, get navigation intructions etc.

Thank you for let us know beforehand!

I’m hoping it’s true and not just a false rumour. Hopefully BabyJ can confirm it tomorrow (not sure if he accesses the site in the evenings).

So, what say, Cezar, do they work with open face rider to passenger? Remember, I don’t go faster than 40mph-ish and have a windscreen, so there isn’t all that much wind, though, but it still is open face.

Never tried on open face helmets Paivi! All that you have to avoid is the wind in the mike, it sounds terrible in the ears of your pillion. To me it worked fine up to around 100mph, after that the wind makes too much noise. At 40mph , you won’t have any problems!

Hi Paivi,

I have fitted one of these to my K5 750 i have linked up the mini disc player, phone and sat nav its wicked. If you’re going to use an open face lid it will be ok ,just need to fine tune the VOX to your speed.

Jalfrazie

The cons being that you can hear your pillion screaming. Always off putting.

I ride so smoothly they fall asleep! Either that, or they take tranquillizers. Hmmm… must do more research! The problem I have at the moment is that one of my pillions keeps talking to me, and as we’re more or less at the same level, she keeps headbutting me when she leans forward. I think my helmet has developed a weak spot now.

LOL. Pillions, don’t you just love 'em.

Good Morning all…and Paivi naturally Yes we are doing the Autocom deal at all of our stores me thinks…now I aint got a clue about Autocom…however, Chris who runs the Holborn store 020 7242 1111 ( or Daniel ) will be more than happy to talk to you about Autocom

You dont have to go for the top kit…it all depends on the viability of your helmets for fitting the kits in…and how many toys you want to cram in there ie…phone, ipod, gps, etc etc if its just rider to pillion you may be able to get away with just the standard kit

hope this helps…please call the boys at Holborn 020 7242 1111 or if you prefer Hangar Lane on 020 8991 5969

Do you know if you can plug them into a power socket or are they only direct to battery?

No it should NEVER be connected to the battery as a) too easy and b) will drain way too much power…Autocom is fitted via the rear light …i didnt invent it so please dont make my head hurt by trying to explain that one!!

Yes you can get a power socket connector…but I think only for BMW’s…the list of extras is very, very long

Nice one. Cheers mate.

To Infinity and beyond…

Hey BabyJ!

Thanks for this. Am off to see Chris at Holborn shortly. We think I should go for the Vox one with battery, as I’d want to move it from one bike to another when I go on hols and rent a bike. With the others, you’d have to get them professionally fitted through the rear light, so that’s not really an option. Also, as I only need it occasionally (perhaps once a week, and for a week here or there during hols), I don’t have to worry about the battery life (ca. 3 days).

The only prob now is that we may not be able to fit it on the helmet I normally use, so I may have to use my newest, personal, spare one (at last count, I had about six helmets lurking around). But, we’ll see, I’ll take them to Chris and see what he says.

£105 now, normally £210! Can’t go wrong!

To Infinity and beyond, definitely!

Am glad that Holborn are able to save you some cash!!!

Is the offer on autocom leads too?

erm…not sure but will find out for ya…me thinks i’m gonna buy a kit 6 aswell Paivi so I can listen to ma ipod…and listen to the other half screaming in terror on the back of the zip

I mean £105 is feckin cheap…I was just quoted £153 at staff price!!!…methinks i’ll buy it on a day off!!

Midlife…do you know what leads you need???

Well, it was a good idea in theory, just doesn’t work in practice. The Autocom kits don’t work with open face helmets, except the brand new £250 Arai ones. Others don’t have a space for the earpiece. I tried one on under my helmet, and even after just 10 seconds it was really painful. Forgot to ask if I could use them with my own Sony earpieces from my MD player. Any idea BabyJ?

Slightly more than a bit annoyed, as it really is a bargain at £105 and would be perfect for when I’m out and about with pillions, but also for listening to music & phone (although my phone may not have the voice activated answering, but it’s time I upgraded mine anyway).

Bugger.

No sorry babe…'cos of the cables wont match…will you always have a open face lid??? It might be worth getting for a later stage…'cos £105 is a steal…got mine just now…already got the arai’s so am lucky there…it can be fitted to other open-faced helmets where there is a space for the ear pieces…I think from what Chris said 'cos youre helmet had solid ear pieces they couldnt fit it for you…the boom mike is always a pain on open faces…need bodging to work…i’m fairly good at bodging

do the fit into the following helmets

caberg brutus

&

shoei xr1000

might consider buying the £105 deal with rider & pillion if it fits both…

C

It is not a problem to fit the kit into the XR1000 and having just looked at the Caberg it should fit it aswell…just not as neatly as in the Shoei…if youre buying the kit for pillion use you will need to buy another headset kit which I think is RRP £45 and if you want to hard wire it to the bike you will need that aswell…or maybe that comes in the slightly more expensive kit which we are knocking out half price too I have just got the £105 kit as i’m selfish…and I’m not exactly gonna stick it on the Zip, but wait till I ave a new bike.

Im probably gonna be down the ACE on Friday so Ill bring the kit down and you can have a look see
