I just dropped my bike when moving it on my driveway!
Cracked a bit of my screen off and broke the wing mirror - will be on ebay for bits now.
I was trying to get to the datatool system 3 under the tank cover to figure out whether the PCB got wet causing it to stop working. It could have been worse though because it landed on the wheel of my car and luckily there is no paintwork damage to either. But after all that I couldnt get the alarm box open because you need a special tool. I am probably going to have to get a new alarm fitted anyway cos its 6 years old and not sure its worth paying £140 for a new PCB.
Anyway my attempts to save myself money will have ended up costing me more!
Lesson learnt - don’t bother, at least until I have been on a maintenance course!!!
Anita
ps - can anyone recommend an alarm installer and does anyone have a spare cbr600f1 mirror???
pps - an embarassing question to end? how do I get the bike to start now after dropping it? Some petrol leaked out when i dropped it and now I cant start it. It doesn’t really matter too much at present because the temperamental alarm probably wont disarm for another week. I feel stupid asking this so please be nice when replying:)
this is a difficult one to answer, not cause it necessary a difficult answer but because people arent going to want to be responsible for anything going wrong if they suggest it to you…
i can only tell you what i would do in your situation and that is to check the red engine stop button isnt on and to let it settle. im talking about leaving it for half an hour at least. then try again. as to the fuel leaking out, its probably from the overflow and nothing to worry about. you need to make sure that the fuel is all cleared up, so that when you try to start it, anything that has split or leaking is more apparent.
which side did you drop it on?
Sorry to hear about that but don’t let it put you off learning to do stuff for yourself, as ppg has already mentioned, check the kill switch and another simple one to check is that the bike is in neutral Hope you get it started and dropping you bike is nothing to be embarassed about, we’ve all done it at some point, I know I have
Also a replacement mirror doesn’t cost the earth - http://shop.wemoto.com/index.dyn?oid=25344
On the right.
Think its just overflow - its not still leaking.
I pretty much just laid it down gently and the wing mirror took most of the impact against the car tyre before it slid down onto the ground. Its got crash bungs too.
It maybe is just a case of letting it settle.
Its hard to check it at the moment as the alarm is the main problem. Cant do anything until get that sorted.
ok - sorry i didnt get that on my first read - so what have you actually done that makes you think the alarm is affecting whether it will turn on or not?
Thanks for the kind words. I’m okay about dropping the bike because its the first time and I knew it would happen sooner or later.
Its not the kill switch, neutral etc
I actually had the key in the ignition without the engine running because randomly the alarm disarmed when I tried it for the 10th time so I didnt want it to arm itself again whilst I was taking the fairings off.
Also it sounded like it was trying to fire up but couldnt - reminds me of trying to start my first car after flooding it with too much choke and pedal! I’ll worry about that later. Now I could do with a mobile alarm installation company :crying:
is it just an alarm or does it have an immobilizer too?
Its a datatool system 3 so alarm and immobiliser but its gubbed!
It stopped working about 2 weeks ago and the AA came out, sprayed WD40 on it and dried it for 15min with my hairdryer. It worked briefly so I was able to go out with it in service mode ie bleeping every 15sec but since the bank hol weekend the alarm unit has only recognised the fob once, today when I decided to take the fairing off. I think the PCB got wet - well the bike certainly got soaked the day it started misbehaving and the alarm is quite exposed. I assume the previous owner had a garage and didnt ride it when it was pis*ing it down.
Making mistakes is how you learn Anita - I’m sure that all of us who have learned to maintain/fix our bikes have made mistakes (some of them expensive :Whistling: ) along the way.
The person who never made a mistake never did anything!
You’re totally right but I just want to be able to ride it :crying: Obviously not right now as I’m hammered! x
Ok, so if it isn’t the kill switch, and it’s definitely in neutral, there are still some more possibilities.

Do you pull the clutch in when starting it? Try with the clutch out i case there’s a fault on the safety circuit.
-
Has the line fuse for the alarm unit blown? If this goes, you’re bike will be immobilised.

Is there plenty of charge in your battery? If this is weak, from multiple tries when it got flooded, then you may not have enough power to get the bike started.
I am pretty sure it was flooded but will know for sure once I have changed the PCB in the alarm. Thanks
