Well PompeyTim, has the hangover kicked in or are ya still flying high on the buzz of winning???It was a bit of a mad day with some crazy nerves on the tube heading for the pre-game pub, but these seemed to calm down quite a lot when I was surrounded by my fellow Bluebirds fans…
Then it was a walk in the rain to Wembley with plenty of time to watch most of the build-up before kick-off.
Was obviously gutted not to get the win, but one look at the balance sheet of the 2 teams tells you that we were punching above our weight. They have a team that included players with huge FA Cup experience, winning finals. Sol Campbell and Kanu both collected their 3rd winners medals. They have a team that cost just under £30m plus Hreidarsson, Distin, Campbell (the 15th highest paid footballer in the world, collecting £105,000/week!) and Kanu who were free transfers.
…and I think that we were able to come out of the day with our pride in tact…
We were up against a niggly Portsmouth side who were far more streetwise and savvy. They pushed and shoved and fouled and didn’t allow us to dominate or stamp our authority. The stats show Pompey committed 22 fouls to our 9. They had three players booked to our none. We need to toughen up. They did what they did and won the trophy.
A goal-keeping error? Yes… A lack of fire-power up-front? Sure…
Disappointed, Yes. Disgraced, Absolutely Not!

It was a grand day out and although I was nervous at times I was still confident that at some point we would get a breakthrough, although having watched Pompey for far too many years there was always the possibility the wheels may just come off!
However the lads did us proud and I still can’t quite believe that I was there to witness a truly historic occasion! :w00t: Much drinking and celebration ensued and I actually didn’t have too bad a hangover on Sunday morning, my FA Cup flag has been hanging on the front of the house all weekend just in case my Charlton supporting neighbours missed the event!
I now can’t wait for that trip to the Latvian 3rd division ground for our first European game in the history of the club!
