Exhaust replacements

Hi guys, I just bought a new slipon from Beowulf and was wondering how easy is it to fit yourself? My bike is pretty old now (2000 model) so it may be a bit stiff. If someone recommends going to a garage, how much would they charge?

Thanks in advance

what bike fella? is it a can and link pipe or just the can?

older equals stiffer - that makes a change. . .

With comments like that flying it’s best I stay out of this one, but…

If it’s just the can, it should be worth a try first before spending money.

Tryu to loosten the joint first. Release the clamp, use Plus Gas (or similar) and retighten the joint once a day for about three days.

A bit of heat from a paint stripper can help at the last, but watch for the pretty little flames from the Plus Gas!

If all else fails, go to the garage. It’s cheaper than finding yourself up sh1t creek at the last.

easier if its a can and link pipe fella as should just be spring clamps holdin it in place. just use a wire tie put it round the springs tp pull them off (use the wire tie for leverage) slip the link pipe and old can off, new one on and put the springs back on

If you’re anywhere near Slough, pop round and I’ll do it for you

Hi thanks for the reply, I only just managed to read the replies now. Its just the can and the link pipe that needs to be fitted. Im in Kings X, Ill give it a go using your advice at first if it doens’t go right I’ll just pop into the garage to save me from buggering my bike lol. Also thanks for offering the help in Slough  much appreciated.

Oh its a zx6r 2000.

Has it got race headers on ? - the 2000 zx6 shouldn’t have a separate link pipe - the std can is a 3 bolt fitting (and takes only a few minutes to change)

Yep, 3 bolt slip on - I just put a Micron on mine, OEM can off, Micron on, 3 bolts in, job done !

I work in Kings Cross, blimey, if you can’t fit it, give me a shout and I’ll help. Done it before to zx6rs and it’s a piece of ****. Usually is just a bolt on (3 bolt) unles its got race headers.

oh is it 3 bolt? Haha i thought it would come with the pipe thing because i saw packaging from others on youtube with it lol. It arrives tomorrow, hopefully its a 3 bolt job then :).

edit: Managed to fit it on :), not sure about the noise though. Its quite loud and I got an MOT next month. Looks nice though

If it’s road legal, it should be stamped or plated BS AU something.

If they have forgotten to stamp or plate it, you can buy the plates on ebay and Araldite or similar from your local ironmongers, or fix with pop rivets.

Plating a non legal can would be illegal, so these plates are, of course, only for use when they have forgotten to mark the can or you’ve been over enthusiastic with the polishing stuff.

I’m sure that’s the only reason for them being for sale.

hi

they dont need to be BS marked anymore for the Mot BUT if they are marked ‘NOT FOR ROAD USE’ or are toooooooo loud it will fail.
