improved airflow = more power at the top end as it becomes more efficient at getting air in and out. This has a slight negative effect on torque at the low end of the power band.
Is it massive? nope. I did notice it on my cbr (chopped down micron) however, the noise and top end more than made up for it.
one thing it does do though, or certainly did on my GSXR is makes the fueling less smooth. When I took the laser exhaust off and put the standard one back on, the throttle response was much nicer… If I change the exhaust on my next bike, I will definately factor in getting it mapped for it (injection engine obv)
it is ‘ok’, and can be left. And if you had only ridden the bike with the new exhaust on you wouldn’t think there was a problem But both with my cbr600 and my gsxr when I put standard back on, noticed the fuelling was smoother, and throttle reponse nicer thats all.
id like to know if it makes much sound difference as the cat will still be there, have a look around http://yamahaxj6.proboards.com/index.cgi if you havnt already.
