Everyone invited to this cos we're all bikers right!!!

below is probably THE longest link in the world but click it and you will be given the tools to answer the following question:

WHY IS BIKING SO BAD AT SELF PROMOTION…

Examples:
WSBK - any of you watching must wonder why any sane person would be convinced by the Apprilia advertising? If you know bikes, you would buy one, but that advert with its wonderful Euro rock soundtrack makes me want to burn every Apprilia I see just to make those advertisers pay…

Suzuki - the winds of change… enuff said

Yamaha GO!!! (away)

But its not just the corporations with NO idea about which agency should produce their advertising…
Why are ALL superbike and MotoGP riders merchandise about as cool as wearing clothing decorated with acid induced vomit?

What’s wrong with subtle cool? Why do you have to have enormous garish pictures of “graphic affected” bikes flying at you with huge replica numbers and horrendous mug shots on all the t-shirts and jackets…

THE COOLEST ever was Ducati Corse, because it was quiet and not screaming in your face… but that’ my view… watch the vids below and you’ll see jsut how badly bike promotion is done…

then speak up

(assuming the link works cos LB can’t really cope with modern inter-connectedness and stuff)

Bikes are a minority pursuit unlike cars so there just isn’t the budget for the clever/well thought out/glossy megabucks ad campaigns that cars receive.

Bike manufacturers also probably understand that because this is a specialist/enthusiast market - selling a bike via a glossy, slick marketing campaign that tells you that the bike will enhance your sex appeal/social prestige/cultural kudos (as with car ads) is never really going to cut it with the core bike market who will base their descisions on performance and practical considerations based on independent road tests they have read in magazines, manufacturers reputation and the views and opinions of their peers.

Consequently a lot of bike advertising is hamfisted and half hearted in comparison to car marketing.

Some get it right though:

Why advertise at all if even the advertisers think its only a half arsed effort!?!?!?!

I agree, but surely ANY sane human being can point to why most biking “ads”/“publicity material” is NOT expanding the market…

I REALLY want to buy a “Walker” shirt/jacket or a “Tas by Suzuki” jacket, or similar… but frankly, I did my peacock tasteless twat fashion in uni 20 years ago, and having not learnt ANY fashion sense at all… tryin to look like an idiot AGAIN, is not an option…

There is a need to get their brand and whatever model they are flogging at the time out there - it’s just that they know that they are not going to be selling their bikes primarily via this route so they put less money and effort into it.

Regarding branded jackets - to be honest who really wants to look like the branded/stamped slave/whore/cattle of large corporations whether they are stylish or not - you are an individual not some corporate drone surely?

Either that or get mistaken for some motorsport bore that everyone avoids at parties.

No reply?

I thought you came on here for an (constructive) argument/discussion FFS
