Remember a couple of months ago Westminster council were looking for responses to a fairly loaded questionnaire re bike parking & paying for it ?
One of the main arguements against making bike parking chargeable is because there is no safe way for us to ‘pay & display’. Well, by a strange coincidence it seems they have been in talks with a company that has developed technology that allows motorists to pay parking charges by mobile phone & no ticket is required, see http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,22750-2251054,00.html for details on how it works.
Of course it could just be me being paranoid…
Difficult, I know quite a few people who dont own mobile phones.
being able to leave your bike in a public street? i wish
At Helmesley in N Yorks they have a ticket machine that you put a portion of your reg plate in and so the machine and it prints on your ticket making it useless to anyone else.
Such a cunning idea I don’t know why so many councils haven’t followed. O yes it prob costs more than normal.
Damn their eyes I say!
Knowing Westminster council, they’ll undoubtedly give it a try. Let them waste their money, with the growing media and political attention on the benfits of two wheels the ensuing outcry from an organised lobby such as LB will make them look so stupid they will have no choice but to withdraw, whimpering, with tail between legs.
