Emergency Vehicles and Red Lights

Highway code is amazingly clear on this. My emphasis -

219. Emergency and Incident Support vehicles. You should look and listen for ambulances, fire engines, police, doctors or other emergency vehicles using flashing blue, red or green lights and sirens or flashing headlights, or Highways Agency Traffic Officer and Incident Support vehicles using flashing amber lights. When one approaches do not panic. Consider the route of such a vehicle and take appropriate action to let it pass, while complying with all traffic signs. If necessary, pull to the side of the road and stop, but try to avoid stopping before the brow of a hill, a bend or narrow section of road. Do not endanger yourself, other road users or pedestrians and avoid mounting the kerb. Do not brake harshly on approach to a junction or roundabout, as a following vehicle may not have the same view as you.

I like to go just a bit faster than them and pretend I’m being chased, unless it’s a police car and I’ll go a lot faster  :w00t:

The ‘avoid mounting the kerb’ bit tickles me, it comes so late in the paragraph I wonder if anyone actually digests it that far down.

Blues and twos are like a switch to some drivers, as soon as they hear/see them its boing up the kerb they go.

edit: Or maybe they think its either some sort of fetish that doesn’t apply to them or that its a euphemism and doesn’t actually have anything to do with actually mounting the kerb :ermm:

Having retired from this game in 2012, had I come up behind you at a controlled junction I would have hoped that people use common sense and make room to let me through,I would never in a million years have got stroppy with people who sensibly made a gap for me to make progress through, never heard that Rule from the Highway Code and would have not made a blind difference to me. Don’t find or create problems just use common sense and all will be well in the World:cool:

“Oh what a way to end the night, chased through the streets by flashing lights”

lol, just reminded me of that song.

As for you Gavin,if I had been on the RT and not inside a 530 D you would never have got away:hehe:

haha :stuck_out_tongue:

I had this song in mind

Who’s to say Romance is dead :Whistling:

Think your underlining may cause slight confusion

Consider the route of such a vehicle and take appropriate action to let it pass, while complying with all traffic signs. (seperate recommendation follows)

Agree. DSA’s punctuation doesn’t help. When emphasising I thought there should be a para break there. Thanks for putting it in!
