Dynojet with Racefit Mega on GSXR K5

Hey you all,

I’m a little down as i’ve just had my Gixer dynojeted after fitting a racefit exhaust only to find that it’s knocking out only 156hp . The guy at Banjax where i had it done was a little surprised saying that all the other K5’s he’s done have been in the 160’s + He put it down to the pipe! That or the way i ran it in from new!

What are you guys with racefits putting out on a K5 or similar? In fact what is the standard HP on a K5?

To be honest i’m not that annoyed as it now runs sweet as a nut and the can sounds and looks super sexy! What’s another couple of horses when you’ve got a gorgeous GSXR to play with…

I’ve off to Germany to ride the nurburgring for the first time this weekend with my bro, he’s taking his Lotus Elise. If anyone is riding over this bank holiday and wants to show me around the track i’d be happy to hear from you!

GixerK5

Hey fella. I have a K5 Thou + Stage 1 tune (inc Racefit Mega). Every dyno is different, so don’t be too disheartened. Was this a Dyno 250i, and SAE corrected? If not, then the figures are useless when comparing. I have one set of figures, and they’re different to yours, but whether or not the engine is different is anyone’s guess without riding them back to back.

The exhaust most certainly isn’t to blame. It helps with peak power. I got a VERY good increase in performance by installing one. I also ran my bike in on track pretty much.

Post up a picture of the graph and lets see how your tune came out. Personally I would only trust Crescent or PDQ to touch a gixxer. Mine was tuned by Crescent.

Cheers Jay,

Some interesting comments, I feel better now, except i wish i had gone to Crescent

I wanted to have it done at Crescent but didn’t leave myself enough time before i do the “ring”.

I’ve attached the graph, what do you think?

Stu.

It would help to see it if I attach it…

Interestingly there’s no torque curve on that graph. Did you get another sheet with it on mate?

Performance gains aren’t huge to be honest, but it’s a smooth curve, which is the aim of the game, not outright power increase.

For reference, here’s my first dyno session. It’s changed a little since then:

Yeah, i asked for the torque curve, they said they keep if separate as there would be “too many lines on the graph” I hope to have it next week.

Your graph looks nice Jay. What does the stage 1 tune feel like? I think I’ve thrown enough cash at the Gixer for the time being. Like you say the smooth curve is the important thing, and it does feel great now…

Thanks for your feed back! Great site. If i don’t bin it on turn 1 in Germany I’ll take a ride out on Wednesday for the meet. See ya there.

Stu.

Two very good a/f lines there! Which is why your bike is running so sweetly.

I suspect that Banjax numbers are lower than other dyno’s because I was chatting to someone else recently who had their bike setup there, and I was also suprised how low their numbers are. Not sure if it is because of their tuning skill, their dyno, or the corrections that they do/don’t do???

Thanks Fridayman, i’m feeling better now Although the guy at Banjax did say that he’s had more out of other K5’s. He even asked if my bike was a K4!? That didn’t install a great deal of confidence…Lol

At the end of the day it don’t really matter - I don’t think I used the last 10bhp on my K5 very often, which is why… mmm, see my other thread

Hey Jay, I’ve added the new graph with Torque curve.

Any comments?

If I were you, I would take it round to PDQ for a quick run on their dyno, and see what they say.

Dynos are complex beasts, different makes and models give different readings to start with and then you have the small matter of atmospheric conditions . . . . cold air is more dense - and so carries more oxygen, therfore bigger bang, more power.

A really good explanation of the whole thing I found : http://www.dynamometer.fsnet.co.uk/automotive-dyno-correction-factors.htm

hi gixerk5 im the guy you met at banjax the day you had it dynoed…

the yellow 750 with the LB stickers.

i wouldnt worry about it to much power outputs are only for bragging about.

mines 129

if the bikes running sweet and pulling hard all the way to the limiter then all is good.

there dyno is 250i.

got to say i didnt like the job they did on my bike, thats why i was back there.

fair play to um thought he sorted it out and now its sweet as a nut.

hope you enjoyed the ring.

come down to the cabana sometime.

My 05 ZX10R with Arrow race can,PC2 and K&N is kicking out 161bhp and 80ftlb torque at the wheel,it was setup by PDQ. Like Jay says PDQ Top Squeezers!!!

I’ve booked my bike in at Steve Jordan’s next weekend, see details in Name and Shame section. You can get a run on his IIRC £25 so you can compare figures. He does a lot of race setup apparenly so I imagine the are going to be as good as any.

I’ve taken baffle out of my can and just bought K&N filter so they are going to remap ignition. They said a BMC filter run back to back with K&N give +1-2bhp. Think I’ll stick with K&N as have only just got it and the other bike I run has one too.

Come live at altitude sometime,

GSX-R600 2004, Micron serpent full system, K&N filter, PC III + IG MOD, dyno tuned… 92 rwhp

Mental note to self - never live at altitude!

My pal has a K6 and he put a Yoshi can on it. Suzuki ECU seem to self adapt to a point but he’s waiting to get it on a dyno with a Yoshi box plugged into it … but has put the stock unit back on at the moment because its lost so much power.

A race tuner friend of ours who has tweeked hundreds of Gixers, swears that you only need 50 miles of running, oil change and filter then hit the limiter if you want max power no matter what day of the week the motor was built.

Another point, which may have been made on here before, the superstock racers had a lot of problems with cold seizures when they started to tweak big power out of the motors, the middle two pots tending to over heat AFTER the motor was shut down, still sounding sweet. Bang of nails when it was restarted.

Hi there

Have you any idea wot the recommended settings are for a GSX-R1000K5 with a tri yoshi can and K&N.

I have a Nikko injection adjuster which is similar to the Yoshi box and have remapped the ECU L +5, M +5, and left the H range as standard. It seems to have helped.

I have checked the web for base settings with little sucess.

Thanx Davy G

Sorry, I haven’t even heard of that fueling adjuster.
