Hi
Just seen a '58 plate 1700 mile minter of a Suzuki DRZ400SM at a dealer for £3200 (and he’ll knock another £100 off it for no trade-in).
Thing is though, I tip the scales at just over 15stone (96Kg) with my bike kit on, and have been told that the softy sprung DRZ would need an uprated spring. It’s not a bike I’d see as a long-term keeper, more something to get back into biking on and having a bit of fun around town for a year or so, so I’m not keen on forking out to uprate this and that.
Any of you DRZ400SM riders out there as fat as me and think standard suspension’s fine if the pre-load’s wound up, or is an upgrade to the rear suspension the only realistic option??? Hoping to get back on two wheels asap to join my son who bought an XT660 recently.
Cheers
Just take the 660 off your son and give him the drizzle
Ah screw it, if it bottoms out shim it but otherwise just ride it if you’re not planning to keep it. There’s worse things than soft suspension!
£3200 is to much. Sold my few months ago with £1k extras for £2900 and u can get them even cheaper.
I am 85-87kg, well it was soft but still allrite, if u want it for fun in the city and keep it for a year than its worth givin it a try. U will notice the soft rear when taking faster bumpy corner but its not that bad :). If i remember right a new rear spring is around £70 so u can still respring it for u weight for few quid.
If u decide to get one look for one with all the moods done as the stock DRZ is quite slow.
I’m 92KG and my DRZ feels perfectly fine. However some people seem to be more sensitive to suspension settings than others.
The basic performace enhancing mods for the DRZ should cost you no more than £100.
(JD Jetting kit, 3X3 airbox hole, pair valve & solinoid removal)
How much can a hole possibly cost?!
