DRZ400 in london

looking to get a bike to play off road (green lanes) and a 2000 DRZ 400 with two sets of wheels has come up for sale at my price (£1400)

however i hear lots of things about DRZs being stolen, is this particuarly the DRZ or that kind of bike in general.

would be chained up on a driveway in NW london.

many thanks.

Great bike for playing about on. I had one for two years. Make sure you have a almax! I spent about 2.4k on modifications, it was blinged out in the end it turned heads and i didn’t feel comfortable without my almax.

I am actually splitting one I bought two months ago. I bought it after missing my old one. The one I have needs a engine but now it seems more hassle then good so I am splitting it. My SM wheels are on ebay.

With the money I get I will be buying another SM but one with a working engine

You can’t go wrong with a drz!

Lovely bikes, not sure about leaving it chained up on a driveway though. Perhaps under a cover, with lots of chains, and floodlights, and dogs, and barbed wire…

Seriously, if all you can do is chain it on the drive, go for it. That’s what insurance is for – they will factor the storage location into your premium, you do your best for it to not get stolen, if the worst happens they’ll get you a replacement.

I love my DRZ, ride it in London quite a lot

what does your insurance quote you Boris?

Buy my tank  Your drz will look great without a dent!!!

cheers guys,

as for insurance I’m looking at about £300 premium with £825 excess.

:w00t:

I got quotes of £90 and £100 excess on a DRZ!! That’s crazy the quotes you got, have you tried compare the market?

thats just one poke on thebikeinsurer.

i am 22 though, which bumps it up

OK, that probably has something to do with it, I’m 37 and had my licence for 15 years.

as for theft, would i be better off with something else (like an XR400 for simmilar money), or is it just that they are small and light that makes them nickable.

Thefts… Supermotos and Supersports are common targets. Doesn’t matter what make or model.

There just eye candy and low life scums target them

ah fair enough, may aswell stick with the DRZ then, assuming the seller actually relies to the texts…:doze:

What one you getting?

Also, is there anything in particular that i need to check with the DRZ?

Check oil and oil filters have beenchanged regularly. Drz is a dry sump (has oil in frame). People always muck upchecking oil on these.

Basically you should let to bike warmup for 3 to 5min (I use to ride round the block couple times). Then letit cool for a couple minutes and then check the oil.

Erm the other thing is when runningcheck if there is any tapping sounds coming from engine (pretty difficult if you’renot familiar with drzs) because big singles are usually noising.

But the older drz’s are common tohave a crap auto cam chain tensioner. If it’s tapping then its prob that orvalves clearance need doing? (check it’s been done usually around 13k)

Also older DRZ’s like the one you arelooking at needed a few Loctite fixes

cheers!

but 1500 mile oil changes!?
how much oil do they take?

my bank balance is now more depressing :frowning:

but there is a DRZ400 on my diveway

Congratulations!
