Drei Down......

Drei has sourced the bits to get himself back on the road. We’re gonna go back to the B1057 and have another go! Assuming we make it that far! But we have a plan!

He’s still up for joining the EAMG too. I hope he does takes up the training on offer…

hope u are ok dre.

Unlucky Dude, spoke to him last night, and at least he is OK, and his leg saved most of the impact for the bike!!!

From what he said, he didnt lean off enough, easy thing to do when you go too hot into a corner, sit on the bike and forget everything else…jsut have to practice hanging off so that it natural for every corner…

Lean off enough! ffs there out on a ride out not racing around brands on a trackday or summat.

I know thats how some pepes ride but others are gonna try to keep up thats not too there ability, i for 1 dont try and get me knee down etc.

All i say is be careful pepes we dont want a death on a londonbikers ride out do we?

I think he meant he didn’t lean off enough to save the himself on the corner.

The bikes are very capable of making the bend and in that situation, it seems you need to blank out your normal survival instincts (brake) and go for it with everything you’ve got, ie. lean the bike and hang off like a monkey to help the bike corner at that speed.

At this moment in time, I don’t know if I’d have the courage to do it, I’d probably end up in the nettles as well However, a more experienced rider probably wold have gone for it and made it.

It’s an error I fully expect to make myself one day, a learning curve (pardon the pun )

it’ll have been down to a number of things, but most of them in his head most likely. you always have to focus on the positive ‘i can make it, there’s the exit etc’ rather than ‘i’m going wide, i must avoid the far kerb etc’. you go where you look and all that. not to mention lowsides being generally ‘kinder’ to you than highsides anyway

setting up a corner right, braking and settling the bike, then hanging off gives you a bigger safety margin - essentially more grip for the tyre as less lean angle required

just to be clear hanging off isn’t to drag a knee, that’s the bi-product telling you have far over you’re at. its supposed to be a guage, rather than an aim in itself. i actually got my knee down on the road yesterday for the first time by accident just from taking a tight right hander/small roundabout that i just took really cleanly.

suppose the point is that if you set you self up for each corner as if its going to be worse than it is(tighter/blind/poor surface/adverse camber etc) and it isn’t, all you’ve done is hang off a bit extra.

Sorry to hear of your off. Hope you fix up soon

Been there, done that - but agree if the pace is too fast or you feel uncomfortable slow it down.

The guys will either wait or you will have a lonely ride home!

Hope your bike is mended soon fella.

Drei…Sincerely speaking…Get some more training…Do a trackday and stop waiting for others that are doing one before you do one.

This repeat number of accidents is getting dangerous now and for all the advice offered like you should be hanging off more and other stuff, this could have resulted in serious injury.

You need to improve your skills on a bike especially if you want to ride at pace and I say that as a relative newbie but one that is starting to appreciate this riding thing takes a long time to become proficient at.

I say this because I don’t want to see a rider killed post on here because you were just listening to abstract advice on here and not tackling the route cause of your problems. I said the same as much to Shane and I have been told as much when I crashed a few times.

Not bashing you at all, just don’t want to see you dead.

Get the bike sorted, book a trackday (there’s still time for Cadwell on the 19th) and grab an instructor when there. Also, book a BikeSafe…I can help with Bikesafe because my company is involved with London Bikesafe. Also, I’m going to do another one.

Please take my advice.

JB said it for me, but thought I would just add my reply, which is that hanging off makes for a safer ride, and not just for ‘knee down’.

Knee down is good to do as a practice on a roundabout because you learn more about body position, how the bike feels at a given angle, speed and revs, etc in a moderately steady environment. I very rarely get my knee down on the road other than a roundabout, but I do hang off a lot, gives more room for error/corner tightening without needing to grab brakes, etc.

Also its fun leaning off!

Hope you are ok Drei.

Why has Drei been suspended? Did he post something he should not have?

I’d say it is a confidence thing. The bike would have made the corner. Don’t ride with LB for a bit. Seriously, you’ve shown you can’t help yourself but want to try and compete. That is completely the wrong attitude.

Go out on your own and build up to a level where you are satisfied with yourself. Don’t jump on the bike again and immediately try racing everyone around you. Trackdays are probably not the best idea now. It is just about spending time and putting a few thousand miles under your tyres before you have that confidence back again.

As with another guy I was talking to not long ago he couldn’t and wouldn’t even try to go into corners fast because his bike had a strange rattle as if something was lose. I jumped on it and proved it was not the bike. 90% in the mind, 10% bike.

This is seriously dangerous stuff. Take a minute, take a breath. Slow down.

Aint it gr8 talking about someone when they’re unable to respond! Hello Drei!

I dont think that Drei was in a competitive mood and certainly not a competitive environment? We discussed Drei’s country lane riding experience before we set off. The shape of Drei’s tyres show that he doesnt ride where we were heading.

Drei has a bike that it would take a rider of some experience to extract the best from it. Even more so on those twisty lanes with an engine as peaky as his GSXR, add an inexperienced rider, possible fatigue. You stick to what he had been doing for the previous 5 hours. Taking it steady and pushing when he felt comfortable. Some more contributing factors our man said was difficult, was not have another rider in front to gauge how fast to go/hard to brake/where the road was going. All things that we already know…

Track Day suggestions are utter blloox IMHO in this case. Especially if Drei is as competitive as suggested. When you can look beyond your own front wheel, then yeah sure, do a track day. You could indeed learn a lot. If you cant look past your front wheel, then getting your busted GSXR back from Louth would be fun. Especially when you have a mouth full of gravel and your arm in a sling!

yeah great isn’t it. I just think he should cool it. A lot of people here that don’t have a lot of experience are jumping on powerful bikes. It takes years to build up experience. Why try to run before you can crawl.

falling off and bashing your self up is the best experience you can get. Ride as fast as you can on the roads that you know, but be safe. You soon learn.

It’s only as you get older that you realise the value of life and why we are here!!

hmm not sure who that could be!!!

Chin up Drei!

We are here to go fast and have fun!! I won’t tiptoe thru life just to end up in my grave. Die young & leave a good looking corpse I’m sure someone will want my organs…or on second thoughts maybe not!

Hope you get sorted soon Drei…best wishes.

Why do you think a TD is a bollox suggestion when Drei could be out with an instructor for most of the day.

He could be shown at which point to steer the bike, at which point he should be applying the throttle, and when and how hard he can brake.

Are these bollox skills?

If he rides like a knobber and crashes, he’ll also be in a much safer environment to do so.
