double standards

im not posting this to cause an arguement jsut want some answers (mature answers) ive lately been seeing alot of double standards on here

  1. ride outs that are not in london and i used to get moaned at for trying to organise meets in non london locations and getting told this forum is called london bikers but yet people are doing ride outs watford to ayslebury and everyone follows along

  2. ive noticed people are posting in meet section about going ace cafe friday nights when i used to post about meeting at ace cafe every friday i got slated for always posting about ace cafe friday nights but now everyone seems to be doing what i got slated for

  3. if i posted about meeting at a pub in watford i got slated yet again point 1 happens with no moaning at others for doing similar things

1: When a out of london ride out is posted, people generally like to think it’s going to happen. Not post a ride out and say I’m xx% going to do it before it’s even happened.

2: Well you’re clearly a leader and not a follower, take it as complement…

3: Riding out from Watford is one thing, drinking there and socialising with the locals… you gotta be kidding!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Also, the repetitive

1: kishan

2: bla bla

crap is annoying. 99% of bikers know where the ace is so don’t need an address. 98% of bikers avoid the ace. knobbers go there. I go there when Im in a knobber mood.

Its just your approach to trying to make it happen that’s failing you.

How about. “I’m off to the ace on Friday… anyone keen to join?” instead of a childish school role call.

 I feel like a knobber now

Also, others have showed up to other meets, turned up on other rides etc not just tried to do their own thing all of the time. Couple that with the fact you didn’t even turn up to a couple of your own meets/ rides means that you’re bound to get some gyp for it. I’m not even sure you exist

You also have to consider your use of writing… You started lists for Friday night at the Ace… Lists for christsakes for something that many people decide last moment on the day and may not even post about it. It’s not a rideout to wales where you need to know exact figures for hotel rooms. All you need is a rough idea if anyone else is going. A lot of the times it feels like you’ll only go if someone else you know also goes or that you have something better to do. I tend to go to the Ace if I don’t have anything better to do… I think many here would share that feeling.

Edit: And let’s not hide from the elephant in room. You ride a 125 scoot. You’re going to be limited as to who will join a rideout led by yourself… no? I may be wrong but I don’t remember any rideout other than a few that led to a bar or through london which had a distance that was absolutely pointless to coming all the way to out of London for. Going to Watford to do a 150mile belter through country lanes sure beats a rideout where I barely pass 60 and/or am riding through London suburbs…

erm ive never organised a ride out ive only ever organised a pub meet and a quiet pub not one in town centre and i have bailed on my own meets because non of the members on here seem to say if they are attending or if they r not attending, no point me attending a pub if not one can confirm if they are attending and sit there on my tod yeah real fun meet that would be so i would take what ever else gets offered to me so that my evening doesnt get wasted

i create a list so members can see if anyone they know is attending which might tempt them to come along too aswell as know how many people are attending jsut so i know im not on my tod at an event whether its ace cafe or a small old mans pub.

i dont attend ride outs because i dont see the fun in a random ride to a middle of no where for the hell of it

i put ace cafe address incase some newbies dont know how to get to the ace cafe yeah the oldies may know how to get there or know where it is but some newbies may not as no one is born knowing addresses.

On this forum, members share one thing in common… that’s biking. From what you say below you don’t seem to be a fan of that, rather using the scoot to go from A to B. So is it more a mode of transport for you? Most of us actually enjoy getting lost somewhere and then going for a pint (of coke or lemonade)… Why would someone want to do just a pub meet when they can only have 1 pint at the most? Clearly if you are in a non london location, it’s unlikely to attract anyone other than those close to you? You haven’t been moaned at, you’ve had some stick for it - a bit of light hearted fun.

Lists - I see your point but it’s overengineered and surely someone posting “I’m going” would highlight to their ‘friends’ that they are going? But honestly I used to go to the Ace Friday night before I met anyone on here… then I met a couple of people, then a couple more… This is before I even joined LB. When I joined LB and got to meet some of the peeps on different rides or meets then it was even more fun. Ultimately your threads make it feel very soul less and boring… sorry to say that but that’s

Finally, you seem to react to a bit of fun a bit too seriously… you need to lighten up a bit and remember that this is a forum where some people do like to have a bit of banter. I’ve been the butt of that with my crashes, me_groovy with his bodge jobs and nivag with his tractor. Just take it as it comes.

P.S. This thread is not doing much for that last point… and I’m now off to meet my other half for a pint and a steak :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok - I’ll try some mature answers…

I think south of London works a treat for a rideout - as you have Boxhill - the roads to Brighton / Hazelmere etc. on your doorstep. Watford by contrast is near Luton. But yeah, you shouldn’t get moaned at for trying to get something going from Watford.

  1. ive noticed people are posting in meet section about going ace cafe friday nights when i used to post about meeting at ace cafe every friday i got slated for always posting about ace cafe friday nights but now everyone seems to be doing what i got slated for

Was defo your record of non attendance - and moaning about people not coming when you yourself didn’t go, that led to some mickey taking. It was all good natured I hope.

  1. if i posted about meeting at a pub in watford i got slated yet again point 1 happens with no moaning at others for doing similar things

Think you are flogging a head horse (other than for Watford based LBrs) hoping to get a drink in Watford. Get to know some LBrs better (Rideouts / meets at the Ace) and I’m sure people will be more inclined to socialise.

You seem a sensitive sort Kishan (Nowt wrong with that) but I wouldn’t get yourself too wound up by what people post - especially if it’s tongue in cheek.
Cheers
BL

i used to bail because no one seemed to confirm if they are coming and i would bail from organised ace cafe meets which were organised by others because well i had some important things to sort out which had to be sorted there and then or i had a better offer for that evening hint hint wink wink so i would bail out of going ace cafe

my 125 is mode of transport and pride and joy and im happy to use it to go to a meet at ace cafe for bike nights as its a meaningful event than a random ride thru a village or country side to get lost.

Well i thought a small old mans pub would interest a few riders to give them a break from a noisy london atmosphere or from the typical locations where every tom dick and harry biker seems to be going

i am sensitive especialy when people are being funny about things that dont need it and just need a simple yes or no answer in life instead of cocky witty comments.

No worries Kishan. All I would say is maybe have a go on a rideout - one of the 125 / L plater ones - as you may find you really enjoy it. If not, then you have only wasted one afternoon. As for getting lost - it is a bit of a hazard on a rideout - can’t pretend otherwise. But so long as one of you knows what you are doing, things usually work out ok.

Others have eloquently covered your main questions and I agree with pretty much everything that has been said thus far. But for me, I see this is as root of the ‘problem’ - for me at least - this is exactly why I do go on ride-outs.
You seem like a decent chap with good intentions, so rather than focus on what you may be doing wrong, I’ll share a bit of my story and see if that helps…
It was a weird concept for me a week or so after passing my DAS, to find out we would be going all the way to Weymouth- just for lunch! Not even a Michelin starred, long leisurely, boozy lunch, in fact it was just fish and chips, sat outside on a wall by the harbour…and we left as soon as we finished the last mouthful and taken a couple of pics to remind ourselves we were actually there!! It was one of the most AWESOME days ever!!
Was on a scooter for two years before I did my DAS - it was A-B transport, end of. So totally get where you are coming from - I had absolutely no idea what I was letting myself in for…
Only went for training to be able to buy a bigger scoot (had been riding a 49cc on my car licence), NEVER had any interest in bikes at all, ever. After chatting to my instructor for a bit while doing my CBT, I had my arm twisted to try a geared bike while I was there - have never looked back. In retrospect, it was probably just a very good sales technique to sell more courses!! Anyway, 5 mins on the bean can (CB125) and it suddenly dawned on me “I’m in control of my own roller coaster - this could be A LOT of fun”. I was instantly addicted and as I gain more and more experience (close to 16,000 miles in 10 months of riding,(less than a 1,000 of which are commuter miles) my addiction only gets worse/better (depending on your POV!). This is despite a serious injury after just 5 months (2 ops, wheel chair, 4 months on crutches etc). As I was lying on the ground, with people fussing around me, my only concern was “How’s my bike?”
For bikers/motorcyclists it really isn’t about the destination it is ALL about the ride (well ok if you’re a ‘biker’ it might also be about posing with your mates and showing off your latest ‘trick’ bits and polishing your chrome, but I’m sure you get my point ).
So there in lies the problem - we use our 2 wheels for different things and so aren’t really on the same page about how we spend our free time with them.
Kish if I ever see you out and about I will definitely stop for a chat, as I’m sure any of us would, but don’t get upset that people approach all this from a different view point from you. Until you have those 5 mins on a bean can, you’ll never fully understand what motivates us.

well put Ally. Glad you got rid of that bloody noisy cruiser though

Basically you’re going to have a hard time organising meets on LB unless people have met you / ridden with you.

If I were you I’d be
putting myself forwards as a tailgunner on a few L friendly ridessetting up some L / 125 / scooter rideouts to somewhere interesting - eg take the backroads to Brighton for some fish n chips.
As for a Friday Ace, no-one’s going to confirm in advance regardless of who puts it up, unless there’s a special occasion. If it’s been a sunny day in the morning and dry in the evening, it will be busy and there will be people from here there - make yourself known, have a brew and see where the night goes.

LMAO Jamie!!! Yeah - really f**ked up there, didn’t I? The problem with not knowing one single biker before I bought it! Still didn’t learn though - then went and bought myself a bloody tractor (GS). Finally asked for help in choosing and ended up with the wonderful Kermit - 3rd time lucky, although, am starting to get itchy feet again…

Kermit’s staying for good, if poss, but will be put out to pasture as my local commuter/town bike. Will finally get rid of the Beemer and Maxi-Scoot and get myself a ‘next stage bike’. Know what I want, just waiting for the right deal…:Wow:

As per that hilarious post the other day about us LB’ers going off topic, I’ll stop now and catch up with you on FB to find out how you’re getting on- don’t think I have seen you mention anything about your next op on there yet, but would be great to hear how you are, hun.

Sorry Kish!

I am 35% mature

“random ride to a middle of no where for the hell of it”

They’re my favourite sort

are you sure, I heard your not safe with matches :D:D

Neither can I open a cleaning stuff bottle cap

Generally all good points already made. Couple of thoughts from me - LB, and perhaps life in general, is about give and take. You posting about things in Watford and wanting people to come to you seems to be ‘take’. Where is the ‘give’?

Every Wednesday LBers are meeting at Borough Market, how many times have you been? “But it’s a long way for me” I hear you say… but you expect others to make the effort and come up to Watford? Turn up to a few of the arranged LB events (Newbie night at Ace for example?) and get to know people. They are then more likely to attend something you arrange. We’ve all been in your position, make some effort.

As for Ace Cafe posts. Maybe if it was just one thread, like the BM thread, that people could post each week “Anyone heading to Ace tonight?” then it might get a few responses.

mate, why do you post crap like this, do you like being slated

I remember you posted a meet at watford and cancelled last min dot com…

I know this is London bikers but wouldn’t it be fecking boring if we only ever done ride outs within London??
