Don't forget to check your Antifreeze guy!!!

As title

bikes have antifeeze??? oh dear, i really need to work out how mine works, done 3000 miles and not ever checked the oil, but have worked out how to do tyre pressures, so done those once…:D:D

you put a little bit of antifreeze in the water so that it doesnt freeze and crack anything…

You really should check your oil - most important thing of all.

If your bike burns a lot of oil like some do and you don’t know your oil level you could be looking at a seized engine at some point.

I check my Yam (old pre R1 YZF1000) oil every couple of days if I’m commuting as the level visibly drops to the low mark very quickly if i’ve been caning it - but then this bike is known as an oil burner.

Ah yes… I remember the daily oil checks on my old EXUP…

 - these old Yams use an astonishing amount of oil - everyone says the same on the yzf forum - it’s not just my bike!

Yeah, all pre-flight checks and service schedules in order… only snag is I need a snow plough to open the garage door. Oh well, maybe not ride today! Shall have to work from home:cool:

A little? … it’s usually a 50/50 mixture with modern aluminium engines.

… and Mel, you really should be checking your oil at least once a week!

I know this sounds as if i’m playing…but where is the water? I’ve only just found the little screw thingy for the oil… will definately check it before i ride it next time.

i will read the manual, i haven’t done it yet… and 4000 service will be due soon.

In my biking career, I’ve probably checked the oil level about 5 times. And that’s spread over 24 bikes.

In three years!!!:D:P;):w00t:

The coolant probably has antifreeze already in it, any half decent garage will do it at the 12000 mile service.

My bike would have used up all its oil before that!

What bike do you ride?

Got the same problem. Both mine would be running on dregs at this point. Actually the 675 has settled down quite a bit.

oh mel your adorable lol

you really should get the oil changed

Don’t panic Mel

Depends what bike, how you ride, and how often

If like me you got a Honda, I’ve done about 150,000 miles over the last 5 years, between 2 Hornets, and my present bike, and have never had to top up oil between services, but obviously still give it a check every couple of weeks.

Your water tank on most bikes is located under the seat, sometimes you have to take off a side panel to see the level properly,

As for Anti freeze it will probably already be in there, most garages will put it in as standard, as is recommended by the manufacturer, 50/50 mix with water, but still worth a check to put your mind at rest. Once in it only needs to be changed once every 2-3 years or about 24,000 whichever comes sooner.

btw how do you check that there is antifreeze in there - other than than ‘drink some’ test :hehe:

It’s normally coloured, Quite often red or green, but can be other colours, depends on the make.

If the water is clear chances are there’s none in there

I can confirm that if your engine runs dry of oil it will break, even if it’s a Honda.
