Just had my second from last practice day before my DAS on Friday in Pinner. Tomorrow I’m on the Kawasaki 500. I dropped the bloody Honda 125 CG twice when trying to do the U-turn. This has never happened before and has me quite freaked out. One of the guys I was with had his test today and failed.
He was told due to the big change not to expect to be able to retake his test any time soon!
Anyone else out there doing there DAS and starting to feel the heat? Any advice from you seasoned pros?
i kept havin problems with doin my u turn didnt get where i was going wrong until the day of the test… then it all sank in and i thought, ****ing do it now or never… i found that when i thought the bike was going to tumble to one side and i felt the urge to put my foot down, i didnt, if you ease the clutch out a lil… it will sort itself… dont go too slow either as you will get the about to tumble feeling.
other than that i did my test in pinner last thursday and i loved it… just dont park up the bike in the bike bay like i did and take up room for 3 bikes… no one appreciates it.
GOOD LUCK!! im sure you will be just fine, got my fingers crossed
good luck with it im sure you be ok, let us know how you get on
I took my test in Pinar, if you get Norman (he is an older guy) he is tough but fair.
Make sure you do you life savers, and observe the road around you. If the roads are dry make sure that you are observing the speed limits, ie if the limit is 50 DO 50. If you need to overtake on national speed limit make sure you do not get too close the vehicle in front. Don’t forget to turn off your indicators. When in slow traffic keep a good gap between you and the car in front, and keep the bike moving slowly so you don’t have to keep putting your foot down (it proves that you can handle the bike at slow speeds).
Most of all be confident, and relax.
I did my DAS around a month ago after having ridden my 125 for a while and I dropped the 500 I was learning on within the first couple of hours of getting on to it whilst U-turning. You’re mind is probably racing with a million and one thoughts and doubts about your own abilities and is probably you’re worst enemy at the moment. I found to try and relax and concentrate on the way I’m riding right now is far more constructive than dissecting and re-analysing previous slip-ups / faults. The more you do this, the more relaxed you become and it will help you to regain lost confidence. There’s no reason why you cannot make the grade and pass, but good luck anyway!

Good Luck! I passed my test just over a year ago, but I can still remember most of the details. I found the key to the U turn was to firstly set off down the road ie dont try to turn immediately. Before you start to turn look at a point slightly behind you, directly across the road. Try to keep some momentum going and make sure you use the clutch for control rather than your right hand.
On my test I managed to lose my instructor at some lights which ate up a few more minutes. My examiner said a couple of times my observations were so late I needn’t have bothered so just because you think you have made a mistake don’t don’t give up.
Ohh the dreaded U-Turn. Just relax. Normally the examiner will get you to walk the bike round first, then ride it back. Just walk it round, put it on the stand, take a moments breather to settle yourself. Dont rush it !! Maybe bias your weight to left of the seat to counter balance the turn - i.e. just squidge your bum over a bit in the seat to the left. Dont forget to look behind you before you move off and more importantly DO NOT forget the life saver just as you start the turn. If you get a chance to practice in a lesson beforehand then try and do it on a realy narrow road. The test road will then seem a lot wider - hopefully. Remember on your test to keep the 2 second rule / vehicle gap. You can rack up minor points this way quite easily. If you make a mistake, try to calmly deal with it and move on. You can still pass. On my test a car carved me up on a roundabout which caused me to stall in the middle of a box junction on a busy roundabout in the wrong lane. I slowly & calmly dealt with it, did all my checks etc - thought I failed - but still passed.
Fingers crossed - you’ll breeze it !!! Good luck.
Hope he`s alright today.
I actually aborted my U-turn when I did my test. I started to pull forward, but it didn’t feel right. So I checked my mirrors and stopped, re-composed myself, then did another lifesaver and off again. Passed first time!
As long as you haven’t started the turn, you should be fine. If it doesn’t feel right, you stand more chance of mucking it up than if you stop for a moment to take your time and gather your thoughts.
Reading this makes me so happy that I have done my test. I dont think I have done one since!
I found saying “one, two, three, go for it” helped as it made me commit to the turn and for some reason I always used to do them in a gap between the white lines on the road - not sure if there was a reason for that. Oh and dont look at the pavement!
Keep practising. Good luck
Good luck
Best of luck ot you - did mine 8 months ago now - really should get a proper bike some time.
Good luck for today!
Best of luck, let us all know how it went.
Good luck to you!
You’ll be fine
Good luck
Hope your DAS goes well today. Just try to relax, remember what you’ve learnt including the excellent advice given above, do what you have practiced. And, enjoy the experience, especially the bit at the end when they say “congratulations, you’ve passed”!
Good luck and remember it is the whole ride that counts, just because you make one small mistake does not mean that you will fail (barring major incidents!). I though I’d blown it, but the instructor marked it as a minor! Nice interpretation by him based on the fact that the rest of the ride was flawless.
Come on then!!! Spill the beans
Yes, don’t keep us in suspense!
Here’s hoping that no news is good news
