Ran one of my old Land Rovers on used veg oil for a couple of weeks but it was a bit of a hassel collecting the used oil and straining it to get all the crap out.
And yes it did smell like you were being followed by a chip shop
I might be wrong on this, but isn’t petrol 5 or 10% ethanol? Most of which is probably bio-ethanol.
That would make sense - Russ uses Ethanol (E85) made from grapes at one of his local schools apparently…

What are bioethanol cars like to drive? In general, vehicles running on pure bioethanol may be difficult to start in cold weather. However, this can be alleviated through the use of petrol-ethanol blends. That said, cars modified to use pure ethanol have improved performance, as the compression ratio is often increased to take advantage of its high octane rating. IIRC the max legal limit for ethanol content in UK pump petrol is 5%, anything more and it has to be advertised as E10 or E85.
You don’t want ethanol in your standard petrol tank as it will ruin anything rubber(fuel lines etc)

EDIT - wasn’t there a big fuss a couple of years ago about tesco selling contaminated fuel and ruining peoples lamda sensors? - I was wrong it was silicon, not ethanol causing the problems
before i changed my engine in the van to a V8 i had a diesel engine in it and i used to buy value chip oil from the supermarket and just stick it straight in , it ran a lot better on it than it did on regular deisel a frind of mine runs most of his couier van on it bio diesel but he has some problems when it’s cold and and you have to change the fuel filters more oftenand i use LPG now as it’s cheaper and when it only does 15 mpg it needs to be
There are enough people starving in this world without taking away food production for pious rich drivers and vote-chasing politicians, thus raising the price of food.
Don’t spend your money on biofuel, spend it on a subscription to Oxfam or the like - you’ll do the world far more good.

I have and can confirm that with some diesels it works, but on more advanced diesels - with real biofuels- it can knacker the injectors
used it for about 7500miles before it clogged up the engine. It was converted chip fat etc
the best vehicles that take well to it are old diesel and mercedes- …
there are better alternative fuels to use and a fraction of the price
