Well going through a bit of a life laundry at the moment and have recently sold a couple of motorbikes and a couple of cars. One bikes I didn’t really rode and never really cared about it. But one bike really seem to effect me. I had alot of memories both good and some bad with that bike it just made me feel sad.
Now in the last couple of weeks I’ve sold a two cars that Ive owned for a long time. One car for 13 years and another for seven years. Seems odd not to see the cars there anymore., all the memories attached to having them. Yep I know navel gazing but anyone else get attached to their cars and bikes.
I had a Datsun 180B one time that I had owned for years and had many happy memories with. Never had a problem with the mechanics, engine etc were all perfect, 100% reliable, and that car was a dream to drive as well. Then one day it failed its MOT due to corroded bodywork and I had no choice but to sell it to a scrapyard for £25. I remember walking home from the scrapyard very upset, when I got home I was unconsolable :crying:
Yup very much so. My first love of cars is out there somewhere. The morning of the day I sold it, I took it out for a spin and it was a phenomenal motor. But it did have to go, and to a good home it went.
You’re not being silly and its easy to get attached to a bike or car. I have an old '96 Nissan Sunny that I love dearly. She’s black, got NFC for the last 3 digits on the reg which to me means Newcastle Football Club and I’m a fan. She’s sporty and been reliable and we nearly had to scrap her last year when the door was damaged…but I managed to find a second hand door and wing and it fitted well. I really don’t want to get rid of her. However, she’s got a few things that need sorting which will cost some money…its not worth paying up to a grand or possibly more on a car of this age unless I’m an enthusiast…so, at some point this month my baby, that would only command £200 max if sold, is off to car heaven! :crying: As part of the scrappage deal of a new Hyundai I30 Estate she’s worth £3405. She’s gonna go out with a bang and continue to be a very valuable little motor.
I also have my first bike still laid up in the garage but couldn’t bring myself to get rid of her. Thing is, the Nissan means more to me so now I’ve nearly cut the umbilical cord on her, the old bike is more than likely also going to leave one day.
I also had a Triumph Spitfire, 1973 1.5 cc with soft top that I loved and really wish I never sold her cos the wee sh*te sold her to a Yank who shipped her out to the States!
However, I also have a Vectra Estate that I drive…Dave drives the Nissan. I like the car, but never loved her…so she’ll be getting sold once the Nissan has gone and a cheaper car will be bought so that Dave can insure it himself and start building up his own no claims.
Shagged as it might have been, my heart really bled when I saw the bloke who was going to break it, take away my trusty NTV. Seeing it all strapped onto a trailer realizing it’s Going Away Now was hard.
The fella who sold me the Blackbird was near tears when I rode her away, having owned her since new. I can’t ever imagine giving that bike away! It would break my heart.
Yes, we get silly when it comes to old bikes… and not only that.
Other things I still miss:
The awesome old computer keyboard I used in my teens, with loads of hacker stickers on it
The Roland mixer I learned mixing on, that I sold when I was hard up for cash
My first car, a black Honda CRX
So people, you’re not alone… and remember when you sell/break that old bike of yours… it’s ok to cry
I bought it from a guy who had won the lottery…i turned up to his house and drove up the drive passing Lambo’s… Rolls…Hummers ect…
He met me on the drive and we shook hands…had a great chat about how my mum had recentley passed away…she left me just about enough money to do my DAS and buy this bike…we went into his garage and there she was…right at the back with a dust cover over her…
He pulled the cover off and altho she was a bit of a shitter…you could see a twinkle in his eye of all the fond memories and that he really didnt want to get rid of her…but i guess he felt that it would just sit there and rot…i dunno…
Anyways…long story short i restored her and shotley after completion, i had an accident but i still have her and and im back to restoring her back to former glory…she’s with me for life…and no way am i ever getting rid…ever…:).
I absolutely love my car. I don’t miss my CB500 much, probably because she was high maintenance because she was old and needed a new everything. I’ll probably be more attached to my new bike.
ive still got my 2nd car in my mums garage its now a mansion for cats , i went through alot with her, 3 engines 1 gearbox and endless other bits i got her up to 190bhp which wasnt bad for a 1.6 toyota trueno ae101 20 valve gt apex
