thinking about a year 2000 model similar to above as its within my budget and hopefully wont be such a target in the cr*phole that i live in…
will chain it to concreted-in ground anchor in parking bay (not covered/garaged), using largest chains you can buy, alarmed and disc lock plus all-weather bike cover
what do you think?
might consider older bike or replacing all panels with crash damaged rubbish to make it look even worse
i know its not the best option as a first bike but i will be a good boy, i promise, it’ll scare the cr8p out of me if i don’t take it slow anyway
will go straight onto further training to increase skills
excellent first bike! you’re right though good enough to work hard but will scare you if you push past your limits like any bike. Only time i had problems with scum when i had the F4 was when i left the key in the ignition and some little scum tried to have away with it but i caught them in time. never covered it or locked it when i was at home had a disk lock when i was out. great little work horse.
is it ok for a 6’ 2" lankster like me? maybe a double bubble would do the trick?i will be doing a fair few motorway miles down to kent and comfort, although not top of the list, will be important
thats why i thought of fully faired bikes like CBR/VFR etc… but my inexperience is a concern with these bet you aint done many U turns with that CBR yet
Yup should be good for your height as it’s a pretty relaxed position since it’s not an out and out racer. motorway miles will be a doddle you’ll soon be seeing speeds well over the limit if you fancy. Also it will be far more comfortable than than my RR. I was getting a good 180 miles out of my old F4 on the motorway so should be great. oh and get some bridgestone 021’s they do you some good miles.
Totally OK I am 6ft 2 and have a thundercat (very similar style bike) and its just fine, although I would say the double bubble is a must, really helps on motorway stuff.
I dont cover mine, have a disk lock, and it doesnt seem to attract that much attention…although I have put a few ‘battle scars’ on it myself :0
Great first bike as well, easy power that will sort you for everything. it will scare you a coupe of times first off if you want it to, but nothing horrendous.
According to a respected member of this community any bike over 3 years of age is less likely to be stolen than a new one… Personally i think he’s talking Bollucks;):D:D
I had that model CBR to learn on for 2 - 3 yrs and it was just awesome for the job, still look back at it with fond memories now.
Re less of a theft target - I would tentatively say yes it is. Barely ever used to lock mine up and never had any problems, it’s to do with the HISS system I think.
I only had one key for mine, which predictably, one day I lost. In order to make the thing go again I had to replace the entire loom and HISS black box thing at Chiswick Honda - providing proof of ID and everything. Thing is you can only code keys from keys, not from the HISS unit on the bike, so if you lose the last key, everything has to be replaced - locks the lot. I got a bit of a deal from a mate who worked at Honda but it still cost me £700 odd as I remember.
So, great choice of first bike, the best you could make IMHO!!
