disk skimming

does any one know or recomend a decent company that can skim a front disk on a bike as one of my zx9r disk has a slight warp in it, the disks can be removed from the rotor as it is a stealth disk and they can be rebuilt by removing the circlips from the bobbins and the rotor and disk come apart thanks

Bloody hard material to machine mate…If the disc comes apart like you say, sounds best to me if you take it to a machine shop and have it surface ground to bring it flat, though you may end up having to take more than you want off the thickness to get it true…depending how bad the warpage is?

just spend the money and buy a new pair, just dont tell her indoors

When I had a warpped disc, i was told to replace it as no one would even attempt to machine it.

Either get a second hand set, or get a new one.

Just dont tell her indoors  love it

Last time I wanted a m/c disk reground, the machine shop made me sign one of their standard disclaimer forms.

Had the pair reground and both came out looking great and still over their minimum thickness.

Both warped within the month. We are talking BMW here, in the days when that meant quality.

Go buy new disks unless you are skint or like to gamble.

Would they have been the old cast iron discs which were much softer than todays crop?

Speak to Hagon Engineering in Hainault.

the thing is andy p knows her indoors:w00t:, i got a new set of disks a set from a company called black shadow rotors £170 delivered, and for all you keen eyed members yes they are 4 pot toks from a srad 600on a zx9r B4 model and they are 100 times better than the standard 6 pots, running hell lines standard 5/8 master cylinder and ebc hh pads and its like hitting a brick wall so much power and really progresive rode a few early R1 with the blue spots on and the breaks on my 9 are as good if not better than those. a word of warning avoid stealth disks as a few members on the zx9 net have them and they all seem to be warping one guys have gone after 2,500 miles and he’s not the fastest rider

Buy secondhand brake discs at your peril:cool:

If I remember correctly you can also just buy the rotors for rebuildable disks. I think EBC will sell you some “race” spec  ones but obviously check they’ll fit on your current centres. Alternatively ask Stealth if they sell just the rotors…

yes stealth do sell just the disks but i will never touch anouther set of stealth disks again after all the trouble some members of anouther forum i get on have had with them, and they wanted £10 less than what i paid for the new ones and they weren’t the cool looking wavey ones i have on there now.
