Arai/Shoei/Schuberth (to mention a few) put alot into there lids so yes, to many people theyre expensive but to many others who have tested them (Properly)
usually tend to be loyal to that brand as they have seen what they can take.
Various makes and manufacturers tend to believe different things.
For example-
Most manufacturers tend to think
‘Light & strong is best’
Arai tend to think
‘1400g is the ideal weight for a helmet’
You will get mixed reviews from various people and im sure many people will disagree with me.
& the SHARP test is aload of sh*t!
Its ok to go as a guide so you know strong/week points of the helmet but its not a realistic test.
Read up reviews on:
Agv k3 sv (£150 ish upwards) & the HJC IS-17 (£140 ish upwards)
Have a look at patterns etc online and we will help you out at J&S.
Obviously always go for comfort!
Really? They’re made of completely different matterials, shapes, aero dynamics and so much more.
You also get better quality parts on the high end lids, as well as extended warranty’s & some customer service you can rely on.
Not to mention upgradeable & replaceable parts and so on.
Yes they all have to pass a baseline mark to be EU approved but its how they pass that counts,
A frank thomas/bks will probably only just pass where as a shoei/arai etc will fly past with flying colours.
Er… did you really read what I was saying?
I said in theory a cheap lid should be just as safe as an expensive one but that the reality is somewhat different- then I went and detailed a bunch of differences between the cheap ones and expensive ones.
You pretty much reiterated the same thing as I did, but from a position where I somehow said the opposite.
That wasn’t what I was saying.
I will defenetley pop down to j&s tomorrow. But it won’t be till about 12 as I was meant to have this week off but got offered a job at Mazda for 2 hours in the morning so I couldn’t refuse
Arai, Shoei or AGV you CANNOT argue with when it comes to safety and helmets, all 3 have been around longer than anyone else and make the best helmets on the market.
there are other brands that work well, it does depend on what fits but those first 3 mentioned are the best there is, some you may fit some you may not or you might be lucky and fit many types.
come and see me or Bret tomorrow and i will show you and explain properly the difference in helmets and what they are made of etc.
Shinya Nakano crashed at an indicated 210MPH at i think it was Mugello, his head impacted 8 times…he lost his visor and his chin vent, and he walked away with very slight concussion and bruising to the body. he was wearing an Arai RX-7 Corsair, they wear the same lids you can buy in the shop.
Marc Marquez crashed at 208MPH same track i think as well, he walked away with a cut on his chin from flying gravel  he was wearing a Shoei X Spirit 2, again you can buy exactly the same lid.
earlier this year about 4 weeks before the TT i had John Mcguiness’s Shoei in my hands, the very same one he wore this year on the IOM, and it is indeed EXACTLY the same lid you can buy from the shop, straight out the warehouse plain white X Spirit 2 before he had his colours put on, its no bullshit, this is partly why they are expensive, ALOT of work and skill goes into making high end lids.
and there is a HUGE difference between cheap and not cheap.
Sorry Sam but you won’t see me there as I already have been there today! Decided on what helmet I’m getting for the perfect fit thanks to the awesome customer service there. Will propably of there tomorrow to buy the helmet and decide on what gear I’m getting once I have sorted put my budget today!
Yeah i decided to spend them extra 20 quid but wear a lid that I acctually like and with the tinted visor it just looked awesome exactly what I’ve wanted and for £160 a bargain kind of compared to other helmets!
