Diesel in a petrol engine

I’ve heard that sum ppl(who come from colder countries than Uk) put sum diesel in their petrol cars in winter so it would help sum how to start it in cold weather or after the winter season of no activity.

What do you think would happen if u had 10l of petrol and 0.2l of diesel in a motorbikes tank and ran on it? Would it help in cold weather? Would it cause damage to the engine?

Personally I wouldn’t do it. Diesel has a lot of detergents in it and likely to clog up spark plugs, as well as injectors / carb jets.

Actually it was the other way round. You added petrol to diesel to stop it waxing in low temperatures, but with modern chemistry there is an anti-waxing added to diesel to prevent this from happening.

Cheap ‘home made’ vodka works just as well I’ve been told.

people used to put a drop of petrol in diesel motors but thats like 15 years ago when they were like tractor lumps…

You can add a little 2-stroke oil to a diesel engine, the low sulphur diesel these days doesn’t lubricate the high pressure pumps as well as the old diesel so a little (200 to 300 :1 ) 2-stroke oil can help.

Can also help where you’ve put petrol in a diesel engine

Your mainly bl**dy nuts.

As rule in this country, the stuff you buy in a filling station is engineered to the same level as the motor in your bike. Sure you can dicker with it but in both cases it might well end in tears.

Just buy the stuff from a very busy filling station (so it’s not been sitting in a tank de grading for weeks) and the stock stuff will be fine.

As a rule dont do it. A mate of mine put deisel in his harley by accident once. A lot less that half a litre. he got about ten yards and it died.

after draining, cleaning, new virtually eveything his bike went. but coughed and spluttered for weeks chucking black smoke out the back as it also lined his exhausts as well.

Deisel has to be warmed to burn, but the plugs will not warm it as they dont hold a temperature.

keep to the jungle juice. far better for you and your bike.

Back in the day we used to put a couple of teaspoons of Castor Oil in the petrol. It did nothing to the performance but gave you the same lovely smell of Castrol R burning racing bikes:D:D:D
