October 2009 and I do have valid tax. The copper gave me a slip of paper that clearly marked out you need to display your tax disc, there were * no exceptions* according to the slip I read.
I’ve already sent you a PM about the issue you’re in. I’ll also put it here so others can see it.
Yes, we do have computer systems but we need to see your docs so we can scan them in and validate the reason for checking your info on PNC. There are people paid 4 times more than me at some secret office somewhere, checking every record we update with PNC checks.
As the vehicle was taken in for not in accordance with a licence you need to do the following (no insurance seizures have similar requirements):
Take your V5 registration document to the pound with your valid insurance certificate (best to take supporting docs as well) and licence. As you don’t have a full licence you’ll need to take your latest CBT certificate as well. This needs to be within the two year limit. Providing the bike has ‘L’ plates on it (one front, one back) you’re good to go. Although its not enforceable at the pound, make sure you fit the current tax disk to the bike the minute you get out.
You can’t use someone else to get your bike out if they’re planning on using their 3rd party entitlement because regardless of whether its written on their certificate or not, there will be a clause confirming they can’t take out a seized vehicle that isn’t their’s, somewhere in their supporting docs. Also, your bike still needs to be insured for their 3rd party entitlement to be valid.
You can remove it in a van as long as the bike is insured and you produce the certificate with the V5, your photo id (photo licence or passport) and the insurance for the van and the driver’s own licence. This may be an option if you can’t make it, but you’ll need to give all your docs, as well as a letter of authority (need to contain your name and address, the claimants name and address, vehicle details and signed and dated by you) to the claimant.
There’s no point in going to a police station as the people you speak to will have no idea what you need to get the vehicle out. Showing them your docs is also pointless as they won’t fully understand the procedures for the pound.
If you’ve lost your licence you need to go to a post office and complete a D1 form. Get the post office clerk to copy the completed form and give you a receipt to prove you’ve sent the original to DVLA. Take the copy, with receipt to the pound with all your other docs. The completed D1 form will act as a licence…providing the PNC info is up to date.
As for CBT’s, these are rarely updated on PNC so you always need to carry your licence and CBT with you…regardless of what anyone says to you. Otherwise, you’ll end up in the same situation.
The recovery charge is £150 and storage for a bike is £10 a day. This starts at noon the day after the bike is taken in to the pound.
Yeah. Thanks very much for that, I’ll actually sleep tonight.
I think I have everything I need now actually phew. I’m gonna go up tomorrow and try to get it out tomorrow. Licence, insurance cert, passport, V5 and the other paper work.
After that I’ll just do a producer at the police station and change the address on my licence ASAP.
Definately be nice!! I was helped hugely by a lovely lady at Charlton Pound when collecting my bike that had been impounded as it was stolen recovered and being assessed by SOCA. Thanks to her help, no fees to pay and all sorted smoothly and quickly. :D:D:D
Burglary, drugs, assault, aggravated bho, arms and more… I was pleased they banged the fellow up as he knicked my bike and car and burned the car out (a pristine Zafira). Also stole passports/wallets for my children/wife who were supposed to be flying to Hungary that morning to see FIL who had had a major op for cancer and they were not sure if he would live or not. All incredibly stressful and unpleasant. Personally, I wanted to shoot the bugger after letting him be dry bummed by the hordes of sexually deprived prisoners in Belmarsh.
Very tough job. Most people are OK, but we’ve heard all the same excuses and stories every day so we know all the scams and what people are trying to do.
I don’t mind a little bit of negativity from people, but most seem to forget that the only reason their vehicle is there is because they were committing an offence in the first place.
The name calling is bad enough, but the threats of following me home, raping and murdering my family in front of me before doing the same to me…has worn a bit thin now. Life is to short for that crap and I certainly don’t get paid enough for that sh*t…hence my career change in November.
