Desperate Measures bike security

Hi

I’m thinking i’m gonna have to park my new (2003 plate) new for me - bike either a ktm duke or cbr rr on the street until i find a garage any security experts out ther have any good tip’s for a relatively new rider on security I’ve got a oxford monster chain and padlock + Arbus chain and pad + bike Cover and it’ll have a datatool system 3.

It’ll be locked to a big old concerete lampost / post’s

What else can i do are trackers deterents disc locks etc ! !!!

If only i could find a garage !!!

Make sure the chain ISN’T on the ground. Putting a cover over the bike whilst its on the street may make any thief a little curious though!

Just try and get yourself a garage or secure parking quickly!!

When you say chain on the ground do you mean lying on it when on the bike ?

I strongly advise you not too. surely ya can find somewhere else to put it?

If you have to, 2 almax chains at least. i’d have 1 around the front wheel-post and the second through the first chain and around frame and hopefully rear wheel. summat like that anyway.

Cover might help to keep prying eyes and if nicked you know wosme1s got there eyes on it.

Wherebouts are you? ish not exact place.

I am afraid you Abus chain will not deter a thief with croppers, Almax is the one to go for. Chain it to a large post that cannot be sawn down.

Try and make the cover look old and crappy too. Shiney new cover often means shiney new bike underneath!

You really shouldn’t post up what you have, on a public website fella.

Should be ok if he doesn’t go posting his adress as well?

It’s one piece of information you just don’t need to make public, and it wouldn’t be hard to find out where someone lives. I’m not being paranoid, but there are steps you should take to ensure your privacy and security (which I know is the aim of this thread).

Was thinking exactly same thing, jay.

I gonna do another post about this, me and terry were talking bout this on sunday.

You don’t necessarily need a garage. Any clued up thief can get into a garage, and once they’re inside and the garage door is shut, no one can see them and quite possibly hear them either. If the bike isn’t on the street no one can see it and off street parking can help you, ie: garden, side ally, etc. What you need is an Almax chain (possibly two) and a decent alarm and a cover.

What you could use and is very simple and effective is either a baby listener (tucked away in your fairing) or a Drive-way monitor. These items are cheap and could be a first line of defense before the thief even gets near your bike… At least you’ll get to hear them. Bootle traps can also deter would be scum-bags from nicking your baby

Failing that, park it inside the house or tie a piece of string to your toes at night which is connected to the bike…

Look at this way. If they’re gonna take it they will…

Hope that helps…

Mate, do what I have done. Get a $hit bike (mine is a 95 gsxf600 - got itfor 400notes with new MOT) and use that as your everyday bike, while keeping the good one somewhere safe. Chains, alarms, etc will do F/all. If person wants it they will have it in a van asap

Or, you could get a little monkey bike to ride from home to the bikes location. I think they only cost a couple hundred notes? Its all about getting a good nights sleep IMO and with a bike like I have at home I sleep well

if your anywhere near rotherhithe or welling …you can keep it in my garage mate until you find somthing better than on the street

i personally would go for almax, theyre the best!!!

as well as whats been suggested, i will suggest an oxford boss alarm lock, its very sensitive and goes off at the slightest touch, but use it in conjunction with another lock

Hi All,

Thanks for all the reply’s i haven’t actually purchased the bike yet and judging by the reply’s i’m now not sure i’m gonna ! at least till i have somewhere secure ish !!!

i do agree you ought not to post info concerning the location / security of bike’s on the web sorry !
