Although I got my track bike from a friend of a friend back in late June, I only recently got the V5 from him. Straight away I’ve registered it as mine and today I got the V5 back in my name.
Now, I declared I actually got the vehicle in late June and as I try and declare SORN now it tells me there’s been a gap in registration of SORN since 1/6/12 and someone may be in touch regarding this offence.
I suspect they will say you didn’t need the V5C as you can register, tax or SORN using the VIN by post and your legal oblication is to register and either tax or SORN as soon as you become responsible or the vehicle.
If it’s a track bike your mate should have already had it on a SORN.
If it was road legal when you bought it, the tear off on the bottom of the V5 should have been sent in at the time of sale and you should have got a SORN straight away.
Inefficient as they are, DVLA are pretty hard nosed, money grabbing bunch of tozzers, I’d expect that both you and the vendor will be hit with fines.
Expired SORN. Not so much of a problem but I don’t know how the DVLA will react to that. Common sense says a snotty letter saying “don’t do it again”. But when did common sense and the DVLA coincide?
