Found a dead, quite unmarked, near adult fox cub outside the back gate last Thursday.
As a “temporary” measure I put on the work gloves (you ever seen how many fleas these things carry?) bagged and binned it.
Saturday morning I went to put the pedal bin liner in the wheelie bin to be confronted by a foxes *rse and brush sticking out of a bin liner. Not a great start to the weekend. “Must do something with that” I thought. Then forgot it again.
Now it’s down to will the refuse guys notice tomorrow.
Given I don’t have the room or the inclination to dig a bl**dy great hole in the garden to bury it in the garden, what else am I supposed to do with a dead fox?
(Even the French don’t eat fox, so don’t go there.)
As JohnP says, report carcases of fox, badger, dog, cat, etc; to the local council and they’ll send someone to remove them from the side of the road. I wouldn’t try and dispose of them myself.
I would not go anywhere near a fox without a biohazard suit.
To use the hide you would need to skin it and be very particular about scraping off any flesh and this will hold all sorts of nasties which will hatch and eat the hide you have spent hours preparing.
First freeze the carcass in a seal plastic bag, this will kill most of the infestation.
Then skin and de-flesh thoroughly
Next place the prepared hide in another plastic bag and add loads of borax and freeze again. This should terminate any remaining nasties.
Then you can wash, cure and colour the hide for the required purpose and wonder why you have no friends and your family has left you.
When they banned fox hunting I did try and get a version of urban fox hunting using MX’ers off the ground. Not using hounds, as they are not easy to manage in an urban environment, but baseball bats with nails, lances, etc. For some reason there was not much interest in this useful; help the community orientated sport.
Yeah the council will get rid of it for you My dad found the skull of what we think was a fox in the garden last week, fox or someones dog - how it go there and where the rest of it is remains a mystery!
Someone I know woke up to find a dead horse at the end of their drive so just be glad you only need to get rid of a fox!
My local council said that as it died on my property and I’d taken it in it was my problem but it was a bio hazard and should be be appropriately disposed of. Could I give my name and address, please.
Er, no.
Today I dumped the contents of the pedal bin on top of the fox in the black sack (fortunately, rigor mortis had passed and this was now pliable) and stuck it out with the other bin liners. It has now gone to the great landfill ex fox heaven via the Denis Paxit Mk3.
LOL That happened to my ol’ man. When he rang the council in Hornsey and said their workmen had lifted a man hole and let a rat from the street into his workshop. They quoted him a price to deal with it as it was now his worry
