First up, thank you Sam for throwing a spanner in the works and suggesting a Daytona 675, because leaving me to the er6f and my blissful ignorance was too much to ask :pinch:
So, I spent prolly around 2 hours last night looking at Daytona 675s, admiring them, listening to the carbon exhaust ( :Wow: ) and reading the specs and peoples reviews of them.
So this thread is to discuss the Daytona 675 as a first big bike (and what a big bike it is for a first big bike) and specifically…for short people.
I am very much against lowering bikes since Ive read how much it affects the geometry and handling, but I’m not sure how much of an impact it will have on a ‘casual’ rider i.e. not on a race track. Is shaving the seat a better and more plausible solution? My inseam is about 30" and the seat height of the 675 is 32.7"
Any and all info welcome! What is this bike like for shorter people? Would lowering it be that bad? And how is the power for a first big bike? Whilst I have been riding for over a year, jumping from the 13.1bhp of my bike to 124bhp will be…significant…
The very appealing thing about the bike (other than it sounds heavenly) is the light 185kg, putting it below the er6f.
How about learning to slide a cheek off one side and having one foot on the ground, if you perfect it then it shouldn’t be an issue, i usually only ever have one foot on the gound at a time.
Cheers, since I dont plan to ever be cornering like Rossi, 1.5" sounds really good, it would be good to hear other peoples experience with lowering bikes and cornering.
that aricle is pretty good, it’s exactly like you just said, providing you don’t corner aggresively lowering it PROPERLY (ie front and back the same) shouldn’t cause any issues. BUT… If you do start to get it low round corners you may run into issues, But, one of the issues mentioned was exhaust scrapping the ground, well a 675 has under seat exhaust, so if that does scrape the floor it won’t be ground clearance issues!! lol
there isn’t a great deal of seat material to start with to be honest.
if you do mod the seat to my understanding its best to shave the sides rather than the top as it means you can stand more straight up. Reduce the padding on top much and you’ll be sat on the subframe
you don’t move through traffic quite the same on a sports bike - you don’t have the lock to paddle tight turns. Its more a question of planning ahead and slipping through the gaps.
Take the mirrors off as it a) looks cool and b) doesn’t make you clash with car mirrors (and if you want a mirror get the CRG LS hindsight that flips in) and you’ll be able to squeeze through seriously narrow gaps on the 675.
Eeeep, I’m really want one now I’ll definitely need to test ride, I’d see what I could do with shaving the side of the seat and lowering by about 1"
Keep the suggestions and advice coming
Sam - I’ve seen that model for sale, I rather like the red frame instead of the blue. Besides…I already got my big bike leathers in advance theyre red/white/black so I don’t want to clash…
I chose my first bike without a test ride, a GSXR400 and i got so bored within a couple of Months traded it in for a GSXR600SRAD. I know Slan hasn’t been riding long but i’ve been out on Rides with her and she is more than capable of riding, i think it’s just a confidence thing with her, which will come with time on a proper bike.
Yeh need an older model for the under seat exhaust :Whistling:
I did say in one of my posts on page 1 that I was going to have to test ride it first, I may get on it and hate it or find the learning curb too steep. It wont be my first bike, it would be my first big bike, I’ve read around with other peoples experience and they all say it takes some getting used to, not least the more aggressive riding position. Seat height is a major issue for me though, but if it can be lowered with no real world problems like Wise suggested, then thats a plus
Cheers Sam, the confidence issue is something I need to work on, especially in a test
And FYI I’m 5’4’’ so if a rider of 5’2’’ stature can handle it then thats comforting, though he may have insanely long legs!
my friend was looking at 675’s but apparently (his research) they don’t make a 47bhp restriction kit for anything past the 06 model, they do however make a 33bhp kit (again, his research) so if you are looking at a 675 instead of a er6n then it will need to be pre 06 reg
edit also bare in mind the restriction cant be more than half the original hp of the bike.
