I don’t think I’ll be available (wife, kids etc) but when you get a crew together why don’t you think of getting the Eurotunnel and ride south in France…Find somewhere to stay and then ride back next day.
I’d love to do that but I want to get a couple hundred local miles under my belt on the new bike before I think about anything bigger and unfortunately with the weather being like this I don’t think I’ll be able to do that before the beginning of April. If I do I could be in for this
I was thinking of doing something similar myself in April but can’t do that weekend but when I go it will be done on the cheap. Anyway this is what I’m doing for a couple of days away (copied and pasted from my plan). This is just my plan not a suggestion for yourself but might give you an idea what can be done over a weekend:
Friday
Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais at 07:20. Once off the train then ride to Schloss hotel in Neuerburg, Germany from Calais (256 miles). Mainly motorways riding through Belgium, but depending on time possibly take a more scenic route. Aim to be at the hotel at around 5pm but if earlier then bonus as I can go out again for a ride before dinner.
Saturday
Breakfast then head out at 9am. Ride through Mosel valley and to Cochem for lunch. Afternoon head towards Nurburgring or just explore then back to hotel for dinner. About 200 miles.
Alternative day: Ride to Eifel National Park, Monschau for lunch then to Spa in Belgium. Ride back through Belgium/Luxembourg to the hotel for dinner.
Sunday
Early start. Scenic route back to Calais through Luxembourg and interesting parts of Belgium. Possibly one or two WW1/WW2 sites along the way. Late train maybe 20:00, possibly earlier. 300-ish miles.
It’s a shame I can’t do that weekend, I’d have gladly gone with you. I have a feeling that it may be a last minute dash for me dependent on weather, time off work etc. If circumstances change for me I’ll let you know.
Oh that does sound good, even though it involves some unreal times (to be in Folkestone at 7.20 I would have to get up at I-don’t-even-wanna-know) but more importantly I would probably be working on Fri anyway so for me it would have to be Fri evening start.
It’s flexible though so you could mess around with what you do. This is just what I’ll do given the chance in April. It’d be worth it for 1 days annual leave on the Friday. If I decide to go I’ll post it up but it will probably be only a couple of weeks notice. Would be cool if people wanted to come along. I’m hoping for warm weather to move in mid April onwards. Fingers crossed.
I’ll bear that in mind Just have to say that this is a mini version of a trip I do with another forum in September and lots of credit must go to a friend of mine on the GB bikers forum who organised it. I’ve just adapted it for myself. Like I said if I decide to do it, I’ll post it up on this forum but as I said earlier it depends on a few factors so may not happen or will be in May or June instead. Just keeping it open for now as an option.
