Day trip or over night ? 5-7 April 2013 !

Well have seen a kink in the armour as wifey on work conference and kids at my sisters from 5-7 April 2013.

So am thinking of a day excursion or allowing for an overnight stay somewhere, enabling a few more miles the next day.

No idea of plan as yet but UK or Europe are both feasible…

Any thoughts or takers on these dates?

AMIT…

No thoughts or ideas anyone?
–> " SOMETHING I SAID ?" :frowning:

I don’t think I’ll be available (wife, kids etc) but when you get a crew together why don’t you think of getting the Eurotunnel and ride south in France…Find somewhere to stay and then ride back next day.

Good biking roads to be had…

I did exactly that 3 times last year

plenty of good roads for an overnighter in frogland if you turn right out of Eurotunnel and follow the coast

I’d love to do that but I want to get a couple hundred local miles under my belt on the new bike before I think about anything bigger and unfortunately with the weather being like this I don’t think I’ll be able to do that before the beginning of April. If I do I could be in for this

This will be a perfect trip for you to try out the bike

Do a Euro run mate…B500. You know it makes sense

new rider…new bike…B500…are you mental ??? :w00t::w00t:

yeah go for it

Europe was only an idea to put out there… UK would be fine too !

Again, open for suggestions.

We should go somewhere nice and hot. How long would it take to ride to Morocco?

too long on a Hornet and Varedero 125 :D:D

head for the West Country

1…Bridgewater

2…Minehead via A39

3…Porlock via A39 seriously steep hill up onto Exmoor

4…A39 to junc with A399 turn left

5…A399 to junc with B3558 follow over Exmoor to Simonsbath

6…B3558/B3223 in Simonsbath take the B3223 head towards Exford where the road becomes B3224

7…B3224 all the way to Bishops Lydeard and fill ya boots on some fantastic Somerset roads over Exmoor.

8…At Bishops Lydeard chuck a right onto A358 to Taunton

9…At Taunton decide if you wanna thrap home up the M5/M4 or take the A361 across to pick up the A303 to M3 and London

aint worked the miles out do that yourselves

but if you do go it will be worth going on a Friday to Sunday so you get more time to enjoy the area

take a tent or find cheap B&B

note to self…get back down there soon to old stomping ground and do said route

I was thinking of doing something similar myself in April but can’t do that weekend but when I go it will be done on the cheap. Anyway this is what I’m doing for a couple of days away (copied and pasted from my plan). This is just my plan not a suggestion for yourself but might give you an idea what can be done over a weekend:

Friday

Eurotunnel from Folkestone to Calais at 07:20. Once off the train then ride to Schloss hotel in Neuerburg, Germany from Calais (256 miles). Mainly motorways riding through Belgium, but depending on time possibly take a more scenic route. Aim to be at the hotel at around 5pm but if earlier then bonus as I can go out again for a ride before dinner.

Saturday

Breakfast then head out at 9am. Ride through Mosel valley and to Cochem for lunch. Afternoon head towards Nurburgring or just explore then back to hotel for dinner. About 200 miles.
Alternative day: Ride to Eifel National Park, Monschau for lunch then to Spa in Belgium. Ride back through Belgium/Luxembourg to the hotel for dinner.

Sunday

Early start. Scenic route back to Calais through Luxembourg and interesting parts of Belgium. Possibly one or two WW1/WW2 sites along the way. Late train maybe 20:00, possibly earlier. 300-ish miles.

Sounds just the ticket !!!

(If I could get a buddy :crying: :crying: )

It’s a shame I can’t do that weekend, I’d have gladly gone with you. I have a feeling that it may be a last minute dash for me dependent on weather, time off work etc. If circumstances change for me I’ll let you know.

Oh that does sound good, even though it involves some unreal times (to be in Folkestone at 7.20 I would have to get up at I-don’t-even-wanna-know) but more importantly I would probably be working on Fri anyway so for me it would have to be Fri evening start.

Hmm would have done but cannot as I am bike-less at the mo’…

It’s flexible though so you could mess around with what you do. This is just what I’ll do given the chance in April. It’d be worth it for 1 days annual leave on the Friday. If I decide to go I’ll post it up but it will probably be only a couple of weeks notice. Would be cool if people wanted to come along. I’m hoping for warm weather to move in mid April onwards. Fingers crossed.

I am flexible on the dates too… just a window opened before me, not to say that I cannot go on other dates… (I wear the trousers…most days :w00t:)

I’ll bear that in mind  Just have to say that this is a mini version of a trip I do with another forum in September and lots of credit must go to a friend of mine on the GB bikers forum who organised it. I’ve just adapted it for myself. Like I said if I decide to do it, I’ll post it up on this forum but as I said earlier it depends on a few factors so may not happen or will be in May or June instead. Just keeping it open for now as an option.

So?
