Day six with the K5 1000

It’s been a few days since I rode the K5 out of the dealership showroom and I’m still struggling to find words to describe how mind-bendingly awesome this machine is. It’s super fab. I’ve not had any nice rides through twisties yet, but general around-town handling is very impressive, and the power just never stops. I went out recently with some friends and we tore up the city. The exhaust spits out flames all over the place my friends say and sounds amazing when roaring along. MAJOR GRIN FACTOR!!

I can’t wait for the first trackday of the season with the new bike. I hope to be booking it this week, we’ll see. I’m waiting on some final payment for the K4 750 from a friend, and I bought a new Arai helmet the other day as I left my old one outside my house one night and it wasn’t there in the morning, much to my shock (at my own carelessness), so bought a new one, only to come home and have the wife of the nasty neighbour hand it back to me… DOH!!! But the thing is, the new one is so comfy, I’m not sure I want to take it back to the shop, hrm…

I’ve not done any more mods to the bike really, apart from the CRG flip-up lever (which doesn’t fit properly, was catching sometimes causing jerks, so it’s off again now) and the wavey rear disc which looks a lot better on this bike I think, than it did on the 750, some R&G crash bungs and the Racefit GP exhaust. I threw on some titanium bolts as well for the wheels/controls. More mods to happen as they arrive. Oh, has anyone noticed how the rear subframe is a two-piece bolt-on design?? You can detach the end section for racing purposes (I presume) to save weight, mad to have that from the factory.

Here are some pictures from before I went out the other day (I’m completely in love with this bike, it’s incredible!):

Jay, mate! Just when I thought I would settle down and NOT keep changing bikes everytime the bloody manufactors update it, you come along with this new toy… Please, dont let me ride it! Stop telling me how nice it is, and for goodness make it look less gorgeous or find a major defect on it asap!!! I’m too tempeted…

I’m sorry Cezar, but you know, it handles so well and the power just makes me says “fffffffffaaaark” in my lid when coming out of turns, it’s insane. If you don’t want to test-ride mine, that’s fine, though you’re more than welcome to! Welcome to the site as well.

Hope you are enjoying you new toy.

Still I thought I should post some pics of my ‘old’ machine.

Will try again…

Very nice xbiker! Maybe you should start a thread of your own to show off the bike, tell us what you’ve done to it, etc.

just looking through some of the original posts from when this site was set up!! so your not going to see your bike at cubanas jay we will all be having a go!!!

Wow, a trip back in time, old, old post here I wish she was as shiney now as she was then, but usage has dulled the paintwork a lot. Covering it up all the time and dirty roads eh, bleh… Mind you, she performs a lot better now, i.e. engine tune, suspension upgrades/setups, better brakes, etc.

What a bike, Jay you are one lucky guy

That scary woman BSB presenter off ITV has one, so all of a sudden I don’t feel so lucky :expressionless: hehe…

But aye, it’s a fab bike and I love owning it. It’s the first bike I’ve owned that I’ve been happy to keep and not think about trading in. I’ll keep this bike until it goes bang I think.

Did you ever take the arai back?

Nope, I kept it, then about four months later I crash-tested it. It passed with flying colours, Arai rock!

Jay do you know what happend to the stupid drunk chick that ran out in front of you, I can’t remember!

No, I don’t know mate.

Oh well lets hope she learned her lesson and is not a hood ornament on someones hummer

Stunning mate

Stunning!!

My boss likes it. He’s just picked his up from REX JUDD in edgware and wanted to know what a tail tidie was so I showed him yours!!
