Anybody on here have a Datatool System 3 fitted to their bike that can help me out regarding potential problems with the alarm when battery charging?
I’m not using the bike ('03 Ninja B1H) so much these days with the bad weather, so I want to get myself a battery charger (probably the Optimate 4) to make sure the bike starts when I do eventually go out on it. At the moment, I’m starting the bike and letting it tick over for 20mins every week and all seems to be OK for the time being. Perhaps this is sufficient anyway?
Anyway, how exactly do I go about charging the battery without messing up the alarm? I’ve heard of various problems where people ‘spike’ the alarm during charging, which then means you have to follow what appears to be a time consuming and fairly complex process to get the bike un-imobilised. Also, do I have to disconnect the battery terminals when charging because I really don’t want to have to put the bike into service mode and have the alarm beep once every 15 seconds for hours on end and drive the neighbours to despair!
ive got a datatool system 2 or 3 cant remember which and an optimate.all i do is turn off the alarm, dont put it on service mode otherwise when you plug the optimate in the alarm goes off and deafens you as the seat is off. then attach the optimate to the battery, switch it on. alarm goes back on by itself and it the bike continues to chargethen when detaching, switch the alarm off, switch off the optimate and disconnect from the battery
I use an Optimate 4 and do not have a problem with my Datatool 4 alarm. Previously I used the Oxford Maximiser but found after 2 weeks that the battery was almost dead - I ended up getting a new battery in the end. The Optimate 4 discharges the battery and re-charges it!
