As many of you are aware, I went out at the end of July. This is a film from my bike of my thirteenth lap ever, first one of the trip having not been there for three years. The vid was shot from my bike and its a film of my mate Tim on his R1 doing his first ever run. I hope you enjoy it and it makes you want to have a go.
My thanks goes to my mate Duncan for hosting this in his web space.
Fantastic stuff, both yourself & mate tim passed a very respectable number of people & yes, you made me want to go there really very badly . . .
I am now off to look for a forwards facing vid so I can try to learn it a bit beforehand - or should I just get a few laps in with Claudia Schiffer’s little sister Sabine who does the [car] training first ?
A mate who went there 12 odd years ago told me you can hire Porsches in Germany, spank em round the ring [oooh sailor] and if you have the misfortune to inspect the armco closer than you wished, the very acommodating recovery guys will tow you a good few k’s away so you can deny wrecking it at the ring and get it covered on insurance ? Sounds like far too much fun to still be going on. Any ring raiders know the score ?
In answer to Jay - I am not at home at mo as house sitting so will do when I am back.
In answer to KA05, you can hire cars out there, especially fast powerful efforts. What you will find though if you read the small print and i strongly suggest you do, is that you are not allowed to take them on the ring. I have front facing vid, just havn’t got round to doing it up yet. Got to work through 2 hours of the stuff including some road work, the roads are as good as the ring itself.
Suggestion is to get GT4 on the playstation, this has the Nurburging on it and it is damn close to the real track. Tim knew the direction he was going thanks to having played it over and over. What he did say afterwards was you just dont get to feel the force, that refers to the G Forces experienced as you go round.
That looks awesome Chuffster! Both you and Tim look pretty handy on a bike. I’m amazed at how quiet it was on the track, had expected it to be absolutely rammed!
I may be at the Mucky tonight, its all kinda up in the air at the moment. A mate crashed on Monday night and lies in Mayday Hospital in croydon with 2 broken arms and a broken shoulder. I am good friends with his better half who is going through a bit of mental torture. We still don’t know what happened, rider was knocked unconcious. I am trying to persuade her to come out to the Mucky before I take her home but it may be that I just pick her up from hospital and take her back to Catford. I wont really know until tonight. There are plenty of people going down from the Boxhill.co.uk group, thats who I usually hang out with. Make yourself known, they are a nice sociable bunch, usually based on large table to left of door at the front of the pub. Multitude of bikes and there should be a few females (loose sense of the word) amongst the gathering. Hopefully I will be there as well, if so I shall be in the bike transporter, a green VW Transporter van.
Jay - if I could ever get back to the flat you could have them. I am house sitting at the moment and despite my best efforts, something always stops me from getting back to the flat. I now have been spending time trying to help a friend out, her other half crashed somehow on Monday night and he is lying in Mayday with 2 broken arms and a broken shoulder. We have retrieved the bike, its not greatly damaged and basically gives no clue. I went over to Catford (having visited hospital and Mucky Duck) last night. Theres virtually not a mark on leathers or gloves (well the leathers have been seriously cut off him but no sign of accident impact etc). The only real clue is the lid, scraped up on left side but theres a ruddy great tyre mark on the right side. Accident investigations will continue.
As for the pictures, I will try and get them done as soon as possible. Theres lots of vid footage to go with it, I just need some time! Now if only work would let me do it all from here…
