Hi
I wish people would stop having a go at push bikes
Not only are they helping the planet with Little or no greenhouse gases
And are not using up the earths resources as fast as cars and motorbikes do
All we need to do is give them some space and a bit of time
And we can all be friends on the road as we both share the love of two wheels
Welcome to the forum, I think you will find that 90% of the people above agree with you ![]()
You have to remember that cyclists aren’t welcome on the roads, and aren’t welcome on the pavement. There are a few dedicated cycle paths but most are just lines painted on the road…
Yes, some of them are paranoid and overly militant, but try riding through central london daily and see how much respect you do or don’t get from drivers
Cyclists Rule! Back off throttle boy!
For cryin out loud… are you SOOOO desperate to accelerate to the back of the nearest traffic jam, that you can’t spare a few seconds to show some solidarity with a fellow 2-wheeler?!?
Kill the one’s that jump the lights, but if they stop at the lights for god’s salke, make em feel good, it reduces the threat of them jmping lights and putting the sh!ts up every biker who has to take emergency avoiding action…
Besides… as a cyclist as well as a biker… if I put myself in front of you, I KNOW you have to take me into consideration during your wrist strengthening, trhottle frappage… and you 2 strokes fanny’s always get your mix wrong anyway…
They don’t…well I don’t
I can see your point though to an extent.
Often (when I’m on the push bike) other cyclists will come in front of me at the lights. If they are slower than me or wobble around or can’t clip into their pedal, I’ll get mighty pissed off at them, as it puts me at risk. Either I’d have to stay behind them and get lots of cyclists up my rear, or I have to go around them and mix it with cars / lorries / motorbikes.
I cycle and I ride my motor bike and I am sorry I agree I see a lot of cyclist deliberately go in front motorcyclists as if to prove a point.
Firstly, the “getting past the exhaust pipe” is a bullshit excuse.
The complaint is not about you stopping in front, but about you stopping in front and blocking the motorcycle.
Usually plenty of room on the left, most motorcyclists try to avoid sitting in the gutter and tend to drive “defensively” and take up a position in the middle of the road so as to stop idiot car drivers.
Secondly, the argument that it is just “two seconds you have to wait” is also bullshit.
It is not about the waiting time, it is about the idiot driver sitting behind me seeing green lights and expecting me to move, if I am in my car, fine what do I care, at that speed the fender bender probably wouldn’t even result in a claim, but when I am on my bike it is a different matter entirely and being hit up the arse because some plonker in front of you wants to weave around for a minute before he pulls off.
I had this happen to me this evening, so I basically parked in the cycle lane and stopped about 10 cyclists from going to the front of the queue…I couldn’t make it on my bike it was too small a gap (bear in mind I was on the Pan as well).
I then turned to the cyclist at the front of the queue, the one that had pulled up right in front of me, and said to him, with a flip face helmet…annoying when someone blocks your passage for no apparent reason isn’t it, and then had to explain that this is exactly what he just did to me at the lights.
And he sat there with a dumb look on his face.
Though not as dumb a look as the bloke that I called out to this morning on the way into London wearing FLIP FLOPS on a push bike…not like it is warm!! I told him his foot would be bone should he come off, and his response was…why would I come off, I pointed to the cars around me and said, because of these idiots with a cabbing badge.
agree with the above.,
but my input would be about the “fumes” argument,
i dont quite understand why i seem to be the only one doing this, but i always turn the ignition off at every red light,
as soon as I see the light i’m approaching is changing to red I kill the engine and put it into 1st as I coast to the front line,
when i come to a halt I let go the clutch, I check the ignition is back “on” ,
and then as soon as it hits yellow i pull the clutch ignite and away - here insert the 2 seconds figure,
it takes me max 2 seconds to pull away within direct fume path so i vote for cyclists behind
isn’t that really really annoying? my bike does that because it has an issue and it cuts out when revs drop too much sometimes (TPS issue we think) and there is nothing more annoying in the world!
Plus don’t know why, but it can’t be good for the bike killing the engine and starting again at every light!! Maybe I’m wrong but I thought it would be…
i just dnt see the point of hours of engine running pointlessly when there’s a switch right there. what else you gonna do at a red light
I hate everybody on the road equally… Does that count?! :D:P
Some of us have immobilisers, which kick in automatically after about 60 seconds. So to start up again, I’ve got to faff about disabling that on the key fob (which is fiddly with big winter gloves) and then start it up, shove in gear etc. Got to admit, I’m pretty lazy, I often don’t even bother with neutral and just sit there with the clutch in! Unless I know I’m going to be sat for a while at a long set of lights or they’ve only just change to red.
“overly militant” cyclists - great description
It certainly differentiates them from the “sufficiently militant” cyclists!
I may be wrong but I thought the major stress on the engine is when you fire it up, not when it’s running…
Have you ever cycled in London? Ever sat behind the exhaust of a motorcycle while cycling? Did not think so, so no, it’s not a bullshit excuse.
And come on…weaving around for 1 minute before they pull off…give me fucking break.
Not quite sure on what basis I should reply to your post Sookie.
So I will reply in kind.
You have put no points of your own forward and merely posted to repeat that which is wrong.
I won’t bother proving that, or legitimising my reply with reasoning to support my arguments. I won’t bother taking the whole of your post and will entirely ignore those parts of it that I have no answer for. Instead I will just say the opposite of what you have said in an effort to somehow strengthen my argument, as if the mass of posts are an indicator of who is right and who is wrong.
Just been thinking
Most car and motorbike users don’t give bike riders any respect
Possible because push bikes don’t pay towards the up keep of the roads
Maybe if people had to have some training before ridding on the roads
And could have a number plate fitted ,some kind of MOT and insurance ,
Then everyone would be seen as equals
You are right Kaos. I did not put any points forward. I actually asked you a question.
So let me repeat that question. Do you cycle in London? And that question was based on your statement of “getting past the exhaust pipe” is a bullshit excuse."
If you have ever cycled in London on a regular basis then you would have an idea how horrible it is to have exhaust fumes of any kind blown into your face.
And my second bit was just a statement that i find your argument of cyclists weaving around for a minute a bit ridiculous.
Why would you think that. “We” bike riders generally consider “cagers” to be some lower life form - and they have usually met the requirements you list. If bikes were treated the same, it wouldn’t change how we feel about “them”.
