that is a disgrace…

Seems like maybe the bbc didnt give us the full story…
The one thing that is clear is that the idiot was at fault and as such should be prosecuted under road law - dangerous driving.IMHO, he should be flayed alive, but then so should most cyclists in London - they’re a menace.
MMMM I’ve think I’ve met him…or others with the same attitude.
Such a shame for a young life to be taken like that. A simple bit of forethought and consideration… :crying:
i think its disgusting that a poor girls life mounts to a £2200 fine… and he seemed like a right **** with his attitude…
i personally hate cyclists, its unfair they get priority lanes and they dont even pay a road tax or any contributions to using the bloody roads yet they complain when we on our bikes wana use the bus lanes… incase we go past too fast! no points or anything if they cause any accidents due to their lack of skillful cycling… grow up and get a real bike!
up there with the tissue reaching bmw woman that killed the motorcyclist…
That was an awful thing to happen. I’m sure that with his name and picture being printed in the news someone will catch up with the cyclist in due course and show him the error of his ways!
news said that because he was on a push bike the law could only impose a fine of up to £2500 (if I remember correctly). Had he been motorised he’d have faced something like 14 years in prison. the chap seems a bit of a slimeball from the reports but seems he couldn’t have been punished any more. naturally, if this is right, the law is ********.
What a terrible thing. The law in this country really is a joke. Given his witnessed shout that he had no intention of stopping despite seeing the pedestrians, how was this not manslaughter? I’ve experienced this aggressive, arrogant attitude amongst lots of cyclists as a pedestrian in the city. Lost count of the times the ‘cross’ light has been green and I’ve had to wait as cyclists just go through their red light, and I’ve even been ‘asked’ to move off a pavement onto the wet grass in a park to let a cyclist ride past. I was obliged to point out to the &^%$ that, despite my seemingly pleasant demeanour I would, with little additional provocation, shove his bicycle up his ase so he had better move on.
its official they really do get away with murder !!!
Just a passing thought.
Isn’t this the sort of incident we (motorcyclists) need to start countering the cr*p coming from the cycle lobby for different traffic rules for them to other road users?
Clean, green, killing machines?
How dare they claim bus lanes, one way streets, traffic lights, etc. for themselves to do as they wish after this.
Just reading between the lines here and i do have sympathy for the girl and her family, but in the metro article it implies that the group were on the road trying to block him off and he maybe took to the pavement to avoid them. If this was the case, then as far as i’m concerned he did the right thing. If i was out on my pushbike or motorbike for that matter and was confronted by 9 pissed up teenagers trying to block me off or stop me, i certainly wouldn’t slow down either.
Without knowing the exact circumstances, its hard to say, two sides to every story…
None of that came out in the BBC news report.
Probably several sides to every story then.
so if u ever want to harm/assaninate/murder some one, ride into them on a bicycle and ur garaunteed to get off no jail time?..to be honest it seems like its getting harder and harder to get sent down for killing some one these days…bloody ridiculous,
I have posted before on this subject - cyclists in central London are an absolute menace and perhaps as the most ‘enviromentally friendly’ mode of transport their obligations as road users are completely overlooked. Cyclists are generally disliked by other road users because a large percentage they show complete disregard for traffic signals and the highway code which cannot be said for any other groups. I think it is an absolutely disgrace that the maximum penalty for speeding is far greater than and the maximum penalty for killing a pedestrian on a bike. Jail or a £2.5k fine ? Hmmm…
£2,200 is pathetic, if it is how it was reported how can that be anything other than manslaughter, surely the fact he is riding a bike is irrelevant. Reminds me of this…

But it does sound like the BBC aren’t necessarily presenting us with the whole story as they always try to tell us. Its one of those situations where it would be really nice to have a balanced media who are not constantly trying to incite a reaction through their stories. Everyone must have come up against a large group of teenagers who wander across the road with complete disregard safe in the knowledge everyone will avoid them, if that was the case its quite easy to see how one thing could lead to another…
Everyone must have come up against a large group of teenagers who wander across the road with complete disregard safe in the knowledge everyone will avoid them,
Yes. It’s called Woolwich.
Though I don’t suppose it’s the only armpit (or worse) of London.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-565882/Caught-camera-The-film-shows-Boris-Johnson-cycling-red-lights-failing-stop-zebra-crossing-AND-mounting-pavement.htmlMy view is that most of these clowns support cycling so strongly because they don’t have to obey any rules…How convenient would cycling really be if they, like the rest of us, had to stop at every light, give way at zebra crossings, not nip onto the pavement when it suited them, not enter marked junctions unless their exit was clear and generally obey the highway code? Clearly not very. If Boris’ schemes like that below come to fruition we can surely look forward to even more untrained, inexperienced, non-road-savvy and largely unaccountable punters ‘making progess’ in their own inimitable style and at the expense of pretty much everyone else. Grrr…
“I fully intend to ensure that the cycling share of London journeys is massively increased in the coming years. TfL is working towards a target of 5% by 2025, but I will be working with TfL and the boroughs on new ideas that might enable us to be more ambitious. I’ve already asked TfL to develop plans for a bicycle hire scheme for London, along the lines of the hugely popular Velib scheme in Paris, to make cycling accessible to everyone. We’ll work to make cycling safer and more convenient, and we’ll work with the boroughs to make cycling a priority. £2 million will also be made available for more secure parking facilities such as the Finsbury Park cycle park."
