In case anyone was thinking of saving money and not getting crash-bungs for their bike, here’s a couple of shots to show you how good they can work. I recommend R&G’s personally, I’ve used and tested them a number of times (at the track)!
This off was because I was silly enough to start to push it with race tyres on (virtually slicks) in wet conditions at Silverstone. The speed was about 30/40mph, so your average road speed.
After washing the dirt off, it was obvious that only the crash bung and engine case were worn! I ended up sanding the engine case down and respraying it, it looked better than new! The crash bungs saved me about £400! This was about two years ago, I’d just bought the bike new about three days earlier, hehe.

should have taken up farming Jay
Wise words, I got some on mine ready for my inevatable ‘off’
Seeing your new bike like that must have hurt a lot more than your fall, but not so bad in the end as the bungs done their job well.
Highly recommended.
If your bike slips off the sidestand you can do a huge amount of damage but the crash bungs can reduce that to no damage at all and in the event of a faster off
you may still be able to ride the bike home.
Thats great Jay! (not the crash but the picys) Have you sent them into R&G? They always like feedback.
Some models need the fairings drilled to fit R&Gs though. Its amazing how many people walked off from the stand when you tell them they have to drill a 25mm hole!!!
R&Gs are mounted in the strongest place of that particular bike and model, none of this universal fit from other types.
I can only advise if you have to drill your fairing, do it!!! I done it on my original fairing which seemed tragic at the time but I know it will save alot. I even use R&G bar ends on mine too.
Ditto…and how right you are about the strengths…my last bike took a hard decking and the protection saved me at least £600…all for the investment of £52 and the second set free with purchase of the bike…
Agree, I’ve just fitted R&G’s to my R1 which involved drilling the RH panel, didn’t feel like the right think to do at the time, but it worked out perfect in the end. - Perfect hole drilled, even if I do say so myself…
Don’t plan on testing them thou…
LMRR, no, I’ve not sent them in. I might do if I find time today, thanks!
B, I didn’t mind so much, that’s the risk you take if you go out on track in slippery conditions with dry race tyres on But then you know this… That poor bike taught me a lot about track riding and took some punishment for it! Still tonnes to learn, but glad I got the crashing out of the way that year
Got a set of R & G… not needed to test em yet…lets hopw i wont have to!
Ive Got a pair on my bike have’nt put them to test yet but im sure i will one day
p.s Love the tes pot stance LOL
I got them on the front forks, engine and swing arm just to keep my baby safe, plus I actually like the look of them (R&G)
Nice picx Jay, glad the bike was ok in the end.
