Couldn't put Humpty back together again, or the nosecone either

Really need advise here please boys and girls.

Cut a long story short, I cannae get the bleeding new fairing installed on my bike (FZ6). Can anyone suggest where to get this installed i.e. a bike garage, persevere and do it myself, offer large quantities of beer to a LB member expert in fitting full fairings and nosecones to FZ6s’?

Thanks

Long story follows: Got new nosecone (main fairing) to replace the bashed one. Had to take EVERYTHING off the bike, windshield, wing mirrors, headlight unit, indicators etc. etc. Now the screws don’t seem to fit the holes they go in and the lights are not working properly.

I can’t get the thing back together again and it seems impossible! ;(

Advice once again appreciated.

Thanks

Dont worry, youll have a new k5 750 soon and can repair the 6 at your leisure, unless your px`ing?

Would a shop fix it up for me in less than 2 hours labour, plus vat?

Cheers, plus vat

Did the bike take a hit? If so, brackets are probably bent and will need replacing/straightening.

Other than that, I am no expert on these things, I take stuff apart and lay it out in order, then do the reverse when i put it back. Usually works.

As chuffster says, it could be bent if it took a bit of a hit. Sometime you may be able to bend it back with a metal bar and muscle power. Check the fairing bracket for signs of creases etc.
Also if you`ve bought an aftermarket fairing, they do tend to be less of a good fit than originals.
I doubt a bike shop would charge you any more than two hours labour but ask them for a quote first.

You didn’t mention, Is the replacement bit a factory plastic or cheap and cheerful copy?

Plastics that don’t fit indicate a problem with the mounting brackets, Glassfibre bodywork often needs drilling out and on rare occasions bodyfiller to closed the caps caused by real bad copies.

I been there before and it never fitted as it should but it was a race fairing being fitted on the original brackets. Took me ages to get it there and needed another persn to help hold things in pace and put the screws in the holes as they seems to keep running away from each other… lol

It is from Yamaha. Don’t think the brackets are buckled in any way, just the screws don’t fit the bleeding holes.

What a nightmare…

I called the Yam centre by Putney Bridge and they are going to fix it for me next week. Means a weekend without my beloved beast.

Am i mistaken or were you putting down a deposit on a K5 and picking it up this weekend?

You are mistaken. I was going to do it, but having had a look at my bank balance, it is not possible until I sell my current bike
