The bike went over in the wind…don’t ask…
Green stuff came out, about half a pint I would say, presume that this is coolant.
However, got the bike home, have let it cool down, have re-started and left it idling for 5 minutes, it has cooled down again, and the level on the coolant is still at max.
Am I missing something, is it not coolant, is there anything else I should be doing or looking at?
Yep - it was the coolant. Check that your bikes temperature gauge shows normal operating temperatures when cruising and that the fan does not come on any quicker than normal when sitting in traffic etc. If the bike does show signs of overheating but the coolant bottle indicates that it is filled to the max* then you may have air trapped in the system as a result of the spill - in which case set the bike up straight and level (with centre/paddock stands) open the radiator cap (when the bike is cool - not hot!) switch the engine on and give the engine a few revs to get the coolant flowing and to release any pockets of air. Recheck the coolant level - if the level has dropped then refill it to the appropriate level. Then check that the bike is running at normal operating temp.
*(always check coolant level when engine is at operating temp - but I guess you know this)
Thanks Sid, sent you a PM
If it was a kawasaki I’d say it was some of the evil green slime trying to escape;)
You’re right Chunky, it is the blood!
Hopefully will have sorted by Monday
this thread has reminded me to check the coolant mixture in my bikes, thanks
