clutch not disengaging

I’ve got a 1988 Honda Bros 400, I’ve just replaced the clutch plates, and now the clutch wont disengage.
i must point out that the cable is broken, but if i push the leaver where the cable joins the engine, it moves freely (possibly too freely), but keeps the back wheel connected to the engine.
any ideas?

Thanks

Did you soak the clutch plates in oil?
might be stuck together if they went in dry… Can you put it on a stand and run the engine for a bit?

they where soaked in oil, and its been run for a bit

Weird one that…
I don’t know much about clutch business… hopefully one of the more knowledgeable guys on here can give you an answer!

also that lever you push at the engine should be proper stiff…

the bike’s website is down at the moment, but i seem to rember a thread about someone else with the same problem.
thanks anyway:)

Did you have any bits left over after putting it all back together?

I strongly suspect you’ve somehow mislaid this bit, the lifter piece:

The lifter shaft acts as a cam on that & it in turn relieves the pressure on the clutch plates hence disengaging the clutch. The fact that you can turn the lifter shaft quite easily appears to indicate that it’s not under pressure.

Thinking about it, you could always have misplaced the bearing the lifter piece acts on, but that should be far more noticeable, the lifter piece would have come away with the cover & probably dropped out without you noticing it was missing when you came to reassemble things.

that was all there.
i took it apart again in the hope to find a problem, but couldn’t, put it back together and it works
thanks for the help though

magical honda
