Clicking Noise

I’ve noticed the last few days that my bike is making a clicking noise when I push it around to park it up etc. It only seems to make the noise when it’s pushed backwards and not forwards and the noise comes from the back end of the bike.
The chain is lubed and adjusted up properly and doesn’t seem to have any tight spots and there’s nothing stuck in the tyre tread and nothing touching the wheel to make the noise.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it might be? I’m suspecting a wheel bearing, but I thought I’d see if anyone’s got any other suggestions before I start stripping it down.

Maybe you left a clothes-peg and playing-card stuck to the rear wheel? Sorry, no help am I.

The clothes peg and playing card would probably be quieter!

I think my brain’s turned to mush lately, I’m incapable of thinking when it comes to fixing the bike.

Bearing, brake pad, loose wiring, sprocket (rear and drive), thumb tack in your shoe…

steel heel plates on your boots?

All bikes do this when the wheel is turned backwards I’m pretty sure

Technical solution… Don’t push it backwards

you might find that it’s a link your chain,if you dont lube well or not enough then you can get a dry link which you need to keep a eye on…

or you chain could have been adjusted wrong on the tight spot…will need re-doing…and not enough lube oh er sir…

Is your bike fitted with a scottoiler? if so, maybe it’s the feeding tube that clicks against the rear sprocket when pushing the bike backwards. Hub bearings could be worn otherwise.

Check your sprockets for wear … if they’re “hooked”, they can click.

check the alinement of your back wheel its only gotto be out a tad and it makes heap big funny noises

Hooked teeth on either front or rear sprocket (likely to be rear first if its Ally)

Wheel bearings

or tight spot in chain

could also be the chain catching on the chain guide (piece of plastic on the top front end of the swingarm)

check the alignment of the rear wheel (not just by using the alignment blocks / lines on the swingarm)

Bikes shouldnt make a clicking when wheeled backwards!
