Righty, wanting to draw upon your expertise with regards to cleaning. Bikes, that is.
Upon taking delivery of a very shiny motorbike, with ample chrome accessories, I duly covered it in ACF-50 as I had read pretty much everywhere that it’s very good at protecting your pride and joy.
Well, after a few months of pretty unsightly build up I though it best to see how well it is indeed being preserved - essentially, I wanna scrub all that greasy stuff off and polish up like new and, you guessed it, cover it in ACF-50 again.
Q. What’s the best non-abrasive cleaing agent to use that is not just another gimmick?
Noooo! Not sure if that was posted in jest or not…but I considered this (out loud) and was promptly told that it had salt in it and would rust my bike within a matter of microseconds…(no, not literally)…but it didnt sound like a good idea…
I Use washing up liquid on the greasy areas like wheels swing arm and sprockets but make sure you presoak the wheels first to avoid scratching them. White spirit for the stubborn bits. The body work and frame I use maguires liquid gold wash with a clean bucket of water and a soapy one. That way you keep the sheep skin mit clean and don’t swirl the paint work.
Microfibre clothes to take all the excess water off, gt85 in the nooks and crannies to push the water out of bolts and tight places avoiding discs chain and tyres of course, them maguires wax left to dry then buffed with a clean micrfibre clothe.
Stand the bike up give a little shake and wipe away any water droplets with a clothe. Autosol on the headers and link pipe, peak on the end can, silicone lube up the black plastics and fresh chain lube which will need wiping after a spin.
He just uses paraffin, the first words he said to me was when to bm for the first time “wow thats a clean bike” now knowing PJ that’s a huge compliment from him!
