I’m back on the road! After two months the Consultant has passed me fit to ride again, and I picked up the bike yesterday. I want to use this bank holiday to do some basic maintenance and stuff, and was wondering if anyone has a clue about how I clean the carb? It’s nasty and not riding great. I fiddled with the timing, although that hasn’t done a great deal. So process of elimination, Dirty Carb.
Is it a simpleton job?
Wot bike m8? normally standard bikes are a pain just getting airbox off etc, well slabbys and sligshots are anyway, lol. tis why i got seperate filters, lol.
Ya can always go but some carb cleaner, this is from any car shop etc and all ya do is spray directly into carbs (try to do each carb) after taking ya air filter off whilst revving bike etc, should draw the cleaner through the carb with the air etc and clean em. is better to take em off obviously but this should do it.
Have ya cleaned yer plugs too?
Plugs brand new and didn’t fix the problem. Bike is a Yamaha SRX400, Easy enough to take the tank off, the carb is hidden nicely.
Well, I’ve ordered a Float bowl gasket and carb cleaner from my lovely discount giving friend at BAT, along with a couple of other bits. So I’ll be sure to report back when it all goes wrong.
Buying a new bike instead of cleaning your carbs is quite an extreme solution to the problem, mate. Anyway, hope you don’t find too many nasties when you delve into the YDIS…
I stand by the decision. It means I don’t run the risk of getting dirty.
