Classic pedestrian darts out from behind car.

Made me jump !

fair play to the rider.100 per cent not her fault but was concerned about pedestrian.

Yeah - I would have been feeling less charitable.

Are all pedestrians over 15 years old considered to be classics too now?

He looks far more like a vintage model to me

Well as annoying as that is for us bike riders - I don’t think you can say the rider was faultless. She was overtaking on the outside of stationary traffic and the van created a blind area she couldn’t see. Considering the van was not pulling away, she should have been more cautious to make sure her way was clear. If she couldn’t see round the obstacle (the van) then her speed should have been slow enough to have stopped. I would say she would share at least some portion of the blame.

Oh - and the “that is the second time that has happened to me” makes me think she, more than most of us, should have been more aware…

Yeah - strictly speaking it would have to have been Plato or Aristotle stepping out to count as classical pedestrians.

Would have made for an excellent debate regarding who was right/wrong, the nature of reality etc.

still 100% not her fault even if she could have done more to plan ahead. I would have clobbered him after that

I’m with SimoninEssex on that one. Stationery traffic, she should be more careful.
Is it me or she was accelerating to catch up with the lights?

And I’ve heard this somewhere: Once is mistake, twice is stupidity. (I hope I remember this correctly)…

ps. to not mention Rule 165 or 167, pick and choose.

Don’t know about the origin of your particular quote, but it sounds like a take on an Oscar Wilde line “To lose one parent may be regarded as a misfortune, to lose both looks like carelessness.”

Always harder to judge these things on camera than real life, the fact that the bloke appears totally uninjured & the bike pretty much just falls over sideways with little forward movement after the impact would seem to indicate that she wasn’t going that fast at all.

Yep good point. If she’s have braked instead of screaming like a girl she may even have avoided the impact.

‘oh yeah I’d have been so angry I’d have got mad at the guy and shouted at him and thumped him for being stupid’

What a load of bollox.

He shouldn’t have run across there, but people do it. We all know they do it.

All I heard was a big squeal from the rider, didn’t look like there was any front brake or horn or avoiding action.

Should have gone past the van slower, and wider. Or tooted the horn on the approach. Or thought why is there a big gap in front of this van, oh maybe someone will try and cross here because the actual crossing is blocked.

Hindsight etc…

ok not her fault but…

I think she’s assumed it’s all clear because the other bikers ahead cleared that area… I’d probably have done the same but a bit slower and using my horn, with my 20/20 vision :stuck_out_tongue:

This is where my KTM is very useful - revving that thing would make the guy know something is coming

That guy looks like something out of Super Mario Bros. Runs from left to right with no ability to turn his head.

I think when he got hit he was demoted from super Mario to regular Mario.

funny that… I had a friend who when seeing a bus and aknowledging the fact she would hit it with her car, decided that the best action was to scream and cover her face with her hands… She went straight into the back of it!

Her reaction is now a legendary tale amongst our group…

Geee… It made me jump. It’s like one of those maze videos. I would have been more scared of her reaction than that fella walking out on me like that. Yup, I wouldn’t go for that gap…

good post, healthy reminder of one of the many perils of commuting in this fair city of ours. Too easy to become complacent over time, good to put things back at the front of the mind again. cheers.

He would have been a lot more hurt after the event if that had been me… credit to rider!
