Cheap Choppers?

I’m thinking about getting a cheap second bike for a bit of fun and was thinking about the chopper style bike. Basic frame, nothing fancy just noise and relaxed cruising stylee. Got £1500-2000 in mind but it looks like that is WAY to little money. Any one know any good websites for this sort of thing? Not having much luck on google etc…

Could always look at a second hand Yamaha virago?!.. a friend of mine has done his own thing to a 250cc virago. Actually looks really nice!

Virago’s a very good bike if you like that kind of thing. I had one for 10 years (XV750), did around 60k miles and the only problems I experienced were the starter clutch failing a couple of times and the fork seals going. Very strong engine, bulletproof as they say. There are what appear to be some decent examples ony ebay, like here, here and here. Also some nice 1100s: here and here.

Virago Star Owners Club is a good source of advice/parts/etc.

Good call - exactly what I was thinking when I read the question.Choccie Muffin on here rides one…

Cheers, definate food for thought there. Any other ideas? Dunno how to describe it but I was thinking of a more ‘American’ looking bike.

Not sure what you mean by ’ chopper style ’ to my mind nothing any large scale manufacturer has ever produced can capture the essence of the trad home built rigid framed stretched/raked old school chop…have just searched ’ chop’ on ebay and theres a few in there that will fall within your budget .

Ok you cant get the satisfaction of sayin you built it yourself but its virtually guaranteed you will pay less than the build cost and it will be unique .

One word of warning tho…if you are interested but have no experience of custom built bikes get someone who does to have a look , i have built a chop in the past and did it the right way but there are a lot of very bad and sometimes dangerous examples of the genre about .

Cheers, that has thrown up loads. Gonna keep an eye on ebay.
