But would you all chat to a scootist? I had words with one the other day, but they weren’t particularly friendly
I am with 5150, best post ever by NinjaJunkie…
Nod but never chat. Unless I have something to say, like your wheel is flat.
Or like the Mercedes guy I pulled up to at the lights on Sunday and said…hey you know you have no mirrors (they were folded in, just like in the thread on here recently) He pointed out that the Mirrors had been stolen and mentioned that he was quoted £320 for replacements.
I was going to say…well that is what you get for buying an overpriced piece of sh*t German car…but figured he was probably having a bad enough day as it was.
My traffic light conversations tend to go a bit like this. ‘Eh? sorry…earplugs/exhaust’, ‘err my bike? yeah Yamaha.’ ‘oh right’. Lights go green- politely let other party move off first
In all my time on a bike, I’ve only ever had a handfull of scooter folk nod back when they’re oncoming on the other side of the road. They do speak at the lights sometimes, and are more likely to nod at the lights too.
In the country, a LOT more bikers on the other side of the road going the opposite way nod back, the amount who do in London is a lot less. Maybe the bikers in the country know of a good country lane too
I’m with Kaos, usually nod but don’t talk unless there’s a particiular reason, “Your brake light’s not working” or something.
Some people have voted ‘other’. I can’t help but wonder what they do…:w00t:
Whilst out wiv cheekychick we have no need to chat to bikers…she waves to everyone lol:w00t:
don’t usually nod. yesterday I raced after a CBR from whetstone to barnet to tell him his indicator was still on
I like a bit of a chat…When I’m on the KTM, other people start the conversation,
When on the BMW, I start, and they ignore me
I VOTED OTHER,
I GET A LOT OF, FUN THEM AINT THEY I USED TO HAVE ONE, YER
WEATHER NICE HA.
I TALK TO L PLATERS, BIT OF LIFT FOR THEM
Always nod, never get a reply. Therefore, I won’t even think about starting a conversation hehe.
I tend to avoid acknowledging all people as I cant hear them talking back to me with my music on.
And I know what they are going to say anyway so I cant even be bothered putting the volume down nowadays at the lights. It is usually something like “wow, you dont often see girls riding bikes, never mind an Asian girl”…and then if I do say something, I’ll get the add on comment “woah, and a Scottish accent”
I find other bikers generally annoying. They are either all reckless or too slow And most guys feel the need to prove a point as soon as they realise I’m a girl.
I do sometimes lift the visor up when I know I am pushing in front of cars and want them to give me room though. I suppose I use being a girl to my advantage when it suits me and the rest of the time cant be ar5ed. :hehe:
love the scottish accent though
talk to others hmmm if i can hear them over the engine rattling then yes otherwise nah i leave them to read my sign
Blimey, Nonsense. Was that you I said hello to in Hampstead this week?
Not all bikers are slow! Though some of the scooter folk out there filter like mad…
Are you the same girl on a bike who’s on the BBC forums?
I’ve been riding in Nottingham for the past 6 months or so and I always nod to oncoming bikers when I see them. They usually nod back, but here in London hardly anyone nods back.
At traffic lights I tend to listen to my music and plus I feel somewhat inferior rider with my restricted XJ600S next to all those 600s and 1000s bikers which look like they have been riding for years in the heavy London traffic lol.:w00t:
Thing is there are too many bikers in London to be nodding at people all the time. Just going to give yourself a crick in the neck doing that.
I tend only to nod at bikers when I am outside London, and that usually means at the weekends.
For what Nonsense says, I hope I don’t act like a dick when there are girls on bikes around me, well, let me rephrase that to any more of a dick then normal. I get bored when I am out on my own and do dickish things. If I get stuck in traffic I do tend to open the bike up a bit given half a chance, whether with people or on my own. I do like speed, I do like fast acceleration, I do like hammering it down the road.
I can take a certain amount of ‘slow’ riding in groups but sooner or later I will open up the bike and stretch its legs a bit.
I think that is why I like Jetstream’s ride-outs soo much. I have been behind them hammering it and still can’t catch them. Yet, if I get tired and want to take it easy and slow down, the cornerman system is there to let me do it.
Well that was a pointless ramble.
You’re right Kaos. I’ve reduced my nodding the past few weeks lol
i always try to chat to the bike next to me at the lights
Chat with the bikers that are next to me.
Had a few chats with bus drivers, and quite a few with car drivers, especially if they have moved when I’m filtering, and I say thank you to them.
Think most of them are still surprised to see a girl on a bike
