The drive type, not Almax.
What is the general opinion on the best brand of replacement chains.
Need to do mine and I’m loathed to spend £120 on a chain and sprockets made of cheese.
Ta muchly.

I’ve been using either D.I.D or Afam for the past few years and have been happy with the quality and longevity of both these brands of drive chain.
Depending on the regularity of your maintenance and adjustment routine and the position of your throttle hand you can count on getting 15 to 20k out of these chains before they stretch beyond their service limit.
I had a nice gold Renthal chain and sprocket kit on my blade - very nice - but it got knicked 6 months later so not sure about longevity.
Also while your at it - depends how u use your bike, but i went up 2 teeth on the rear sprocket which made it a little easier for town riding (not having to dip the clutch below 15pmh!) - also shifted the poke away from top end to more acceleration… i never needed to go 180mph!
People say to change the front down as well but i didnt know how much of a dramatic change that would make…
From what I know when you change your gearing it will affect your speedo, so your mileage will be off (more)
OP: D.I.D X-ring chain kits are top quality. Make sure you’re front and rear sprockets are steel.
Thanks all.
Replaced today with a DID & new steel sprockets front & back.
First time I’ve used a rivet link rather than a split, and I’m please to report it all went rather well.
Had a bitch of a jump getting the front sprocket nut undone but impact driver followed by breaker bar and jack handle got it eventually.
Only f**ker is I managed to misplace the speedo sensor retaining bolt…fleabay here I come.
Chaz,
So I am guessing you are keeping the 9 for now then…
Hi Waxy…yeah, I can’t justify spending 3.5K on a new bike when less than 1K on consumables and a bit of TLC will see it last another year.
Shame tho
I had to drill mine off after we couldn’t even get it off with a 4 foot leverage pole! Front sprocket nuts can suck F**k right off!
I’m a sworn 525 did/renthal man now, never had a problem, last ages.
