Hooo Hooo. I came close to that before as well. I learn the tricks. This after, the Bike on centre stand, first gear, idle speed, using a good chain cleaning spray and a nice brush to clean the chain, so fingers well away from the **“danger” ** zone! Now have a nicely cleaned/lubed chain with no damage to myself.
Good that you were just spinning wheel by hand, but still damn painful!
i know a guy who did this fireblade in gear ticking over up on paddock stands, lubing chain his index finger got dragged into the chain and onto the sprocket, which managed to lock the back wheel and stall the engine, so now his finger is jammed in the sprocket and the bike is stuck in gear, had to call for help so someone else could pull the clutch in and roll the back wheel back round… not a pretty sight.
It’s at times like that that you know your swearing vocabulary is just NOT rich enough - you just end up mouthing “oh, oh, oh” silently cos you can’t think of anything bad enough to yell.
Go ahead and ask who uses wd40 to clean/lube their chain and wait for the fallout Failing that, use the search fuction. The long and short is people cant agree on how good/bad it is for the rubber rings or somehting or other.
